Big 12 Power Rankings 1-5.

With week 5 of the College football season getting underway here are my Top 5 teams in the Big 12.

1: Oklahoma State

After Oklahoma fell to K-State you could feel this one was very obvious. Spencer Sanders is playing at an all-time high with a 10-1 TD-INT ratio. The Cowboys are averaging  the most points in college football with 51 points per game and 8th in yards per game. The defense is figuring out itself with new defensive coordinator, Derek Mason, and a young secondary. The Cowboys have a great opportunity to make it to Arlington and even have the opportunity to make the playoffs.

2: Baylor

After a solid win against a decent Iowa State team, Baylor draws the #9 Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Bears have a very inexperienced group, but Dave Aranda has coached this team very well. Taking a team that went from 2-10 to 10-2 and a win in the Sugar Bowl against a very good Ole miss team. Baylor has the opportunity to show why they have the debate to be #1 by the end of Saturday. Blake Shapen and Spencer Sanders are the key factors both going up against young secondaries. It’ll be interesting to see who comes out on top.

3: Oklahoma

Don’t let the loss to K-State blind you. Oklahoma is still a very good football team. You can see the passion this Sooners team is playing with this year. I’ll go ahead and say it. They’re having fun. Brent Venables has this team set for the future and has set them up to compete in the SEC. Other than the 41 they allowed to the Wildcats, the defense has looked good. They had 11 sacks and forced 4 turnovers in their first 3 games. Offense hasn’t looked great as well, averaging 40 points and 513 yards per game.

4: Kansas

If I told you last year that the Kansas Jayhawks would be a top 5 team in the Big 12, you’d think I’m crazy. But here we are. The Kansas Jayhawks are 4-0. I said Kansas wasn’t going to be the worst team in the Big 12, but I didn’t think they’d be here. Jalon Daniels is playing elite football. In the air, on the ground, he looks amazing. Defense has been lackluster though. Allowing 27 points per game and 402 yards per game isn’t ideal. The defense can’t rely on the offense to do everything. They need to step up.

5: Texas Tech

This was a tough one for me between the Red Raiders and the Wildcats. On one hand Kansas State just beat the once was #6 team in the country, but they also lost to Tulane, which is the deal breaker for me here. The reason I’m giving Tech the nod here is because their loss is better who was against #10 NC State. Tech is middle of the pack in the Big Twelve in both defense and offense. Overall Donovan Smith has been ok. He needs to limit turnovers already throwing 5 picks on the year. They have another test this week vs a solid Kansas State team.
