With Tom Brady finally out of the picture, the AFC East is up for grabs for the first time since 2001. The Patriots have utterly dominated this division winning 17 out of the past 19 division titles. With Brady moving his talents down to Tampa, the Buffalo Bills have become the odds on favorite to win the AFC East. Each of the 4 teams in this division added key players this offseason possibly making this division a lot closer then suspected. Can Josh Allen rise up to the task? Is Cam Newton the right QB for New England? Here are my 2020 AFC East Predictions: BUFFALO BILLS Week 1: NYJ - W (1-0) Week 2: MIA - L (1-1) Week 3: LAR - W (2-1) Week 4: LVR - W (3-1) Week 5: TEN - L (3-2) Week 6: KC - L (3-3) Week 7: NYJ - W (4-3) Week 8: NE - W (5-3) Week 9: SEA - L (5-4) Week 10: ARI - W (6-4) Week 11: BYE Week 12: LAC - W (7-4) Week 13: SF - L (7-5) Week 14: PIT - W (8-5) Week 15: DEN - L (8-6) Week 16: NE - L (8-7) Week 17: MIA - W (9-7) Final Record: (9-7)
The Bills will end up falling just short of the AFC East Title once again. Josh Allen would have a decent season but nothing too impressive to prove that he is the real deal. Allen, Diggs and Brown will show promise but a lack of offensive consistency will put large amounts of pressure on the defense. They will have to once again compete for a wildcard spot. Tre White will continue his dominant start to his career and lead this defense to a Top 10 finish once again. The Bills organization might start to look elsewhere at the Quarterback position as the 2021 season will be a "Make It or Break It" year for Allen. MIAMI DOLPHINS Week 1: NE - W (1-0) Week 2: BUF - W (2-0) Week 3: JAX - W (3-0) Week 4: SEA - W (4-0) Week 5: SF - L (4-1) Week 6: DEN - L (4-2) Week 7: LAC - W (5-3) Week 8: LAR - W (6-3) Week 9: ARI - L (6-4) Week 10: NYJ - W (7-4) Week 11: BYE Week 12: NYJ - L (7-5) Week 13: CIN - W (8-5) Week 14: NE - W (9-5) Week 15: LVR - L (9-6) Week 16: BUF - L (9-7) Final Record: (9-7)
FitzMagic has done it again! The Miami Dolphins are your 2020 AFC East Champions. This may come as a suprise to many, but what Coach Brian Flores in building down in Miami is special. Just look at the teams last 9 games this past year. They were 5-4 with a miraculous victory against the Patriots on Week 17 in Foxborough. The additions of Matt Breida and Jordan Howard look to help the previously worst rushing team in the NFL last year and additions on both sides of the trenches fill much needed holes. This secondary will solidify itself as a Top 5 selection while Jerome Baker will have a breakout campaign under the tutelage of Veteran, Kyle Van Noy. Parker, coming off his best year, will form a strong trio with Preston Williams and Mike Gesicki. Miami is looking to have a strong passing offense as Tua prepares to take over the team. NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS Week 1: MIA - L (0-1) Week 2: SEA - L (O-2) Week 3: LVR - W (1-2) Week 4: KC - L (1-3) Week 5: DEN - W (2-3) Week 6: BYE Week 7: SF - L (2-4) Week 8: BUF - L (2-5) Week 9: NYJ - W (3-5) Week 10: BAL - L (3-6) Week 11: HOU - W (4-6) Week 12: ARI - W (5-6) Week 13: LAC - W (6-6) Week 14: LAR - W (7-6) Week 15: MIA - L (7-7) Week 16: BUF - W (8-7) Week 17: NYJ - W (9-7) Final Record: (9-7)
The Patriots will end up falling to the bottom half of the AFC East for the first time since 2000. Cam Newton will struggle early on having not played a live snap in a LONG time but find his groove later on in the season. Their hot streak would end up coming a little too late ultimately forcing them to miss the playoffs. Cam Newton however proves that he is the long term fit for the Patriots and breakout WR N'Keal Harry solidifies himself as a sold WR1 option while Edelman's role solidifies as a solid 2nd target. The defense struggles a bit due to the many Opt-Outs but Stephon Gilmore has a great campaign following his DPOY season. NEW YORK JETS Week 1: BUF - L (0-1) Week 2: SF - L (0-2) Week 3: IND - L (0-3) Week 4: DEN - L (0-4) Week 5: ARI - L (0-5) Week 6: LAC - W (1-5) Week 7: BUF - L (1-6) Week 8: KC - L (1-7) Week 9: NE - L (1-8) Week 10: MIA - L (1-9) Week 11: BYE Week 12: MIA - W (2-9) Week 13: LVR - W (3-9) Week 14: SEA - L (3-10) Week 15: LAR - W (4-10) Week 16: CLE - L (4-11) Week 17: NE - L (4-12) Final Record: (4-12)
The Jets finish in last place this year coming in at a record of 4-12. Not much was expected of them being the deprivation of talent on this roster. The offense was not able to get it done with the lack of depth at the WR position and the holes in the trenches made in difficult for both Off and Def. I believe this to be Head Coach Adam Gase's last season in New York. Sam Darnold will be put in a situation similar to Josh Allen where he will have one more year to prove his worth. The Jets contend for a Top 5 pick in the draft and aim to build for the future. The trade of Jamal Adams only solidifies this belief.
