The lottery was just decided and here we are with an updated version of our mock draft!
1. Minnesota Timberwolves- Anthony Edwards, G, Georgia
The Wolves already have young talents in D'Angelo Russell and Karl-Anthony Towns and adding Edwards here would immediately bump them up to a playoff level team. Edwards fits a positional need, and is also considered one of the best prospects in this year's relatively weak draft class.
2. Golden State Warriors- James Wiseman, C, Memphis
Although James Wiseman would not be the best prospect available, he fits a positional need for the Warriors. The Warriors are not really looking for a future star, they need to find a player that can help the already talented core of Curry, Thompson, Wiggins, and Green win a championship. With Wiseman, the Warriors would be a lethal team.
3. Charlotte Hornets- LaMelo Ball, G, United States
The Hornets were a lucky team this year, sliding up in the lottery. The Hornets need a player that can take over at times and lead the team. Ball would be a perfect fit next to Graham and make the Hornets challenge for a playoff spot. Whether Lavar Ball wants to see LaMelo in Charlotte is another story though.
4. Chicago Bulls- Deni Avdija, F, Israel
Another international prospect, Deni Avdija is a constant playmaker that you can rely on to make big plays in big moments. He has the ability to play a forward position, but his handles and creativity resembles more of a guard. The Bulls are in a huge mess right now after firing Boylen, but taking Avdija here would make their roster complete with playmakers.
5. Cleveland Cavaliers- Obi Toppin, F, Dayton
The Cavs already have 2 young guards in Collin Sexton and Darius Garland and they wouldn't need another. Obi Toppin here would be a great start to improving their frontcourt. Kevin Love and Andre Drummond are great options as of now, but if the Cavs want to start thinking about the future, then Toppin is the way to go.
6. Atlanta Hawks- Isaac Okoro, F, Auburn
Okoro is a talented wing that can be a great player in the league. The Hawks have Trae Young already, and can draft a forward. If Obi Toppin is off the board, then Okoro would be an ideal pick for Atlanta.
7. Detroit Pistons- Killian Hayes, G, France
Hayes is everywhere in mock drafts, from very early to late lottery. The Pistons need a playmaking point guard and Hayes would be an ideal option. He is a big guard at 6'5 and needs to improve his shooting, but a Pistons team that doesn't really have a lead point guard will want Hayes at 7.
8. New York Knicks- Tyrese Haliburton, G, Iowa State
The Knicks are once again unlucky in the lottery falling to 8th. It's possible that the Knicks try to trade up for a better option or trade down for a veteran star. If the Knicks keep the 8th pick, Haliburton would be an ideal option, although a bit skinny. Haliburton has proved over and over again he can make big plays.
9. Washington Wizards- Onyeka Okongwu. F, USC
The Wizards already have John Wall and Bradley Beal, so they would not want to draft another guard. If Okongwu is still on the board, the Wizards wouldn't hesitate to draft him. The Wizards need a great defender and the high school teammate of LaMelo Ball will do just that.
10. Phoenix Suns- Cole Anthony, G, North Carolina
Drafting Cole Anthony here would be a risk, but the Suns want a reliable Point Guard that can replace Ricky Rubio as he gets older. Anthony suffered through injuries in college, but once he's fully healthy, he can be really good.
11 San Antonio Spurs- Devin Vassell, F, Florida State
Spurs fans that are watching the lottery are probably going what the heck is this lottery? Their 22 year playoff streak came to an end in 2020, and they will likely be looking towards the future. Vassell is an elite 3 and D forward that would provide a needed spark in San Antonio.
12. Sacramento Kings- Aaron Nesmith, G/F, Vanderbilt
Nesmith is an interesting prospect, as he missed a lot of games due to injuries. He is a very accurate 3-point shooter and could become a very versatile player that can play the guard and forward positions.
13. New Orleans Pelicans- Precious Achiuwa, G, Memphis
The Pelicans are in a great position with a ton of young talent. Drafting a strong guard in Achiuwa would be a great addition. Achiuwa is a great defender, but needs to develop a better offensive side of his game.
14. Boston Celtics (from Memphis Grizzlies)- Saddiq Bey, F, Villanova
Bey was a great player on a good Villanova team in 2019. He shoots a very high percentage from beyond the arc and could become a major rotational player for the Celtics.
