1. Revenge Tour
Although the Hokies finished 8-5 they lost in the last game of the regular season to Virginia. With the win Virginia faced Clemson in the ACC Championship which finished as a blow out win for the Tigers. VT then went on to play in Kentucky in the belt bowl which ended in a disappointing loss after letting the lead slip away in the fourth quarter. After all of the tough loses VT had last year you would think they would use that motivation to reclaim the ACC Coastal and possibly become ACC Champs once again.
2. Hendon Hooker
After the blow out home loss against Duke, VT switched Ryan Willis with Hendon Hooker. VT under Hooker averaged just over 10 ppg more than under Willis and Hooker averaged a nearly 2 more yards per attempt and 3 less INT's per game. Hooker also averaged 40 rushing yards per game and 1 TD per game more than Willis. As much as Hooker grew last year as a football player it would not be surprising to see him take VT to the ACC Championship.
3. VT Defense
If you have never heard of "Adjusted Catch Rate" it is the rate which the offense caught the ball when the ball was catchable. VT's ACR was 84.70%, to put it in perspective the only two defenses that had higher were LSU and Notre Dame. CB Caleb Farley's ACR was an amazing 52.17%, the closest was Jeff Okudah at 57.15% who was drafted 3rd overall in 2020 by the Lions. QB ratings against Farley last season were a dismal 17.19. In order to win the ACC and defeat Trevor Lawrence, VT's secondary will need to continue to keep up those numbers next year.
4. The ACC Coastal
If am being honest the only teams that could have a chance at beating VT next year are North Carolina and Virginia. UNC does have possibly the second best QB in the ACC, Sam Howell. With Howell they could outscore VT next time they play but with VTs defense it seems unlikely and seeing how VT put up numbers against UNC last year I don't see why they won't this year. UVA on the other hand has almost always fallen second behind VT and after last years game I don't see why VT would want to loose again. VT's offense should outscore UVA and VT's defense should shut Virginia down.
