There were more than a few injuries in Week 1 due to the lack of preparation and preseason games. A few running backs and some key players landed on the injury report. I will list the most notable injuries and their timetables for return.
Marlon Mack RB/Indianapolis Colts- Tore Achilles/Out for season
Marlon Mack is now ruled out for the 2020 season with a torn achilles. Rookie Jonathan Taylor will get more reps and carries now that Mack is done. 4 carries for 26 yards in a quarter of play for Mack. Nyheim Hines went off is one of the biggest adds in fantasy and will be named the starting running back for now. He finished week 1 with 7 carries for 28 yards and a touchdown. He also is a returner so if you get return yards in your fantasy team this is a good pickup.
Le'Veon Bell RB/New York Jets- Hamstring/Out 2-4 weeks
Le'Veon Bell will miss a 'couple of weeks' according to head coach Adam Gase, Bell is now on IR. Bell pulled his hamstring during the game and it was reported during camp he had tightness in that area but Bell tweeted out that the coaches don't know what they are talking about. Bell did finish the game and that is what probably injuries it further as those kinds of injuries are hit or miss. Bell recorded 6 carries for 14 yards and 2 receptions for 32 yards in his 2020 debut. Frank Gore is a likely candidate for the starting role, he was said to be outplaying Le'Veon in camp.
James Conner RB/Pittsburgh Steelers- Sprained ankle/Questionable as of 9/15/20
Surprise Surprise, James Conner is hurt once again. Conner sprained his ankle in the 2nd quarter of a Monday Night double-header and did not return. Conner has a rich injury history and missed 10 games last year due to a shoulder injury and a leg strain. Conner rushed for 9 yards on 6 carries and caught 4 passes for 2 yards. Head coach Mike Tomlin said the team will "Leave the light on for him" for Week 2. Benny Snell will be the starting back if Conner can't go Sunday against the Denver Broncos.
Philip Lindsay RB/Denver Broncos-Turf toe/Out for 'several weeks'(2-4 weeks)
Philip Lindsay exited Monday Night right before halftime and did not return, handing the full reins to Melvin Gordon. He injured his toe and it is unclear if he will miss any time. On Monday Night, he rushed for 5 yards and caught one pass for 11 yards.
Michael Thomas WR/New Orleans Saints- High ankle sprain/Out for 'several weeks'
Thomas suffered an ankle sprain against the Buccaneers. Thomas hauled in 3 catches for 17 yards in his 2020 debut. It didn't look like his ankle got caught under anyones body as he got his leg out from two Tampa Bay defenders just in time as he went to the ground. This could be a smoke screen for the Raiders when they face-off Monday Night or he could be actually injured. Although the Saints would love to have him out there on Monday, they don't really need him against a weak Raiders secondary so he may just sit.
Charvarius Ward CB/Kansas City Chiefs- Hand fracture/Questionable as of 9/10/20
Ward fractured his hand very early in the 2020 NFL Kickoff game and did not return. He has undergone surgery and has a chance to play Week 2, although it is unlikely. Charvarius has been a glue piece for the Chiefs and their 2019 Super Bowl run. Rookie 4th round selection L'Jarius Sneed will be taking his place if he is unable to play next week.
George Kittle TE/San Francisco 49ers- Knee sprain/Questionable as of 9/13/20
Kittle did return to action against Arizona but did not catch anything in the second half. A big blow to the 49ers offense, Deebo Samuel and Richard Sherman remain on the IR, and rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk, who did not play on Sunday due to an injury as well remains questionable. Kittle caught 4 passes for 44 yards in the first half. The team is monitoring his injury and will give an update later in the week.
Zach Banner RT/Pittsburgh Steelers- ACL tear/Out for season
Named the starting right tackle a week before the first game, Zach Banner suffered his injury very late in the 4th quarter on Roethlisberger's final touchdown pass. A huge hit to their offensive line and with RG David DeCastro still hurt and another injury on the line, the Steelers are beginning to thin at the position. Chukwuma Okorafor will be the replacement for Zach Banner and Pittsburgh signed their former 2016 4th round draft pick OT Jerald Hawkins to replace Banner for the year.
Stefen Wisniewski RG/Pittsburgh Steelers- Pectoral tear/Questionable as of 9/15/20
He has suffered a torn pec before, these injuries were popular last year as many NFL lineman had them. Like Banner, he is feared to be out for the season, which means rookie Kevin Dotson would start next week against the Broncos top pass-rush. Wisniewski will likely not play for a long period of time unless it is not as bad as it is thought to be. DeCastro remains out and will not play in Week 2, Pittsburgh once had a top 5 offensive line in the league, is quickly deteriorating.
Blake Jarwin TE/Dallas Cowboys- ACL tear/Out for season
Blake Jarwin tore his ACL on a non-contact injury during Sunday Night and will require surgery. Thought to have a breakout season, Blake Jarwin caught one pass for 12 yards on Sunday Night. Jarwin, who exploded in the 2019 week 17 game against the Giants as he scored 3 touchdowns and totaled over 100 yards will be replaced by Dalton Schultz.
Leighton Vander Esch LB/Dallas Cowboys- Broken collarbone/out 6-8 weeks
Cowboys defensive signal caller will miss at least 8 weeks of the NFL season. MLB Sean Lee is on IR and will miss 6 weeks after a hernia surgery. Joe Thomas will replace Leighton on the field. Jaylon Smith will be looked to for leadership and big plays on the Dallas defense.
DeVante Parker WR/Miami Dolphins- Hamstring/Questionable as of 9/15/20
DeVante Parker is the main playmaker on Miami's offense. They lost him on Sunday due to re-injuring his hamstring. Parker had 4 catches for 47 yards in the Dolphins 21-11 loss to New England. He is questionable for play on Sunday, but should be ready for game time.
Richard Sherman CB/San Francisco 49ers-Calf injury/On IR
Cornerback Richard Sherman lands on IR, like teammate Deebo Samual, he will miss at least one week. Sherman has been pretty healthy throughout his career. The teams' #1 corner will miss the game against the New York Jets but the injury won't hurt San Fransisco because the Jets aren't very threatening on the offense. For the teams' sake, hopefully Richard can return for the Week 3 matchup against the New York Giants.
Other Injuries: Green Bay Packers DT Kenny Clark(groin), Las Vegas Raiders LT Trent Brown(calf), Buffalo Bills LB Tremaine Edmunds(shoulder), Baltimore Ravens LT Ronnie Stanley(ankle), Detroit Lions CB Desmond Trufant(hamstring), Cleveland Browns OT Jedrick Wills(leg), Los Angeles Chargers RB Justin Jackson(quad), and Denver Broncos CB A.J. Bouye(dislocated shoulder). These players did not return and were ruled out for the remainder for each of their individual games.
