Recently there has been a lot of speculation about Spurs’ central midfielder, Dele Alli. He has been criticised by pundits and Spurs fans due to his poor performances over the past couple of seasons. There has been a popular debate amongst the Spurs fans about whether Spurs should sell or keep the English midfielder.
Dele joined Spurs in the 2014-15 season from MK Dons for £4m. He went back on loan to Milton Keynes and once he returned he got off to an amazing start. He bagged 10 goals in his first season in the Premier League while only being 19 years old. In his second season he scored 18 goals which is class for a central midfielder despite being only in his second season at the club.
However, after setting high expectations for himself he has hit a bad run of form and combined with injuries his performances have not been up to the expectations that he has set. Unfortunately he has not fulfilled his potential over the past two seasons which has led to him being criticised by fans and pundits.
So I thought I would ask 2 other Spurs fans their opinion on this. I asked @tottenhamfc_2020 on instagram “What is your opinion about Dele Alli and whether we should keep or sell him and why?” They responded with “I think we should definitely cash in. I would take £50-£70m for him because all this season he has been poor and yeah he has had some good games but that's not good enough and we need funds, so yes I would sell him”
I also asked @total.tottenham on instagram the same question and their response was “I think we should keep him 100%. Depending on the formation we opt to go with going forward he could work really well with Lucas, Son and Kane in a 4-2-3-1 formation and Dele should start over Lo Celso. However if we go with the 4-4-2 going forward I don't think he has a place in the starting 11 but should 100% stay on the bench. Despite getting decent money from him, I think we should keep him and utilise him in different ways depending on the formation we choose each game. However, if we buy a new center midfielder then obviously we should sell him.”
Now my opinion is to keep Dele Alli at Tottenham Hotspur because he is still only 24 which is young for a footballer and has only hit a bad run of form. He has set high expectations and still has plenty of time to fulfill his potential and offer more as a Spurs player. If Spurs sell him they could live to regret seeing him flourish elsewhere.
So that’s it, big thank you to @total.tottenham and @tottenhamfc_2020 for participating in this and make sure to leave a comment about what you think about this topic. Thanks for reading.
