Hitting (Tigers): Yesterday against the Reds, the Tigers only tallied three hits total. One home run from C.J. Cron, JaCoby Jones, and Jonathan Schoop. On the roster, the Tigers don't have too many hitters to go around. They have an old Miguel Cabrera hitting third, and Cron and Schoop hitting four and five. Throughout the roster, there are a few contact hitters such as Niko Goodrum, Austin Romine, and Cameron Maybin. Against All-Star pitcher, Luis Castillo it is unlikely the Tigers will be getting a lot of hits.
Pitching (Tigers): Pitching for the Tigers we have Spencer Turnbull. Turnbull is a decent pitcher at best and shows signs of talent on the mound. Last season he had a 4.61 ERA. His pitch repertoire doesn't really stand out. He throws a fastball, sinker, slider, and a curveball. Turnbull, however, does excel at his sinker that can reach up to 96 MPH. As a huge Tiger fan, I have noticed how well he performed in spring training and summer camp. He had great command over all his pitches.
Hitting (Reds): I touched on it briefly in the last paragraph, but the Reds have a lot of fantastic hitters on their team. There are very few holes in their lineup, and I could see them amassing a lot of hits against an unexperienced Turnbull. There is a lot of power coming from them, including Nicholas Castellanos, Joey Votto, Mike Moustakas, and Eugenio Suárez.
Pitching (Reds): Pitching for the Reds, we have All-Star pitcher Trevor Bauer. Last season Bauer had a decent year, with a 4.48 ERA. Coming off of his All-Star year, he was a disappointment for the Reds midway through the season after performing poorly in the red and white.
X-Factor: C.J. Cron
C.J. Cron this season has been playing very well. In two games he's gone 3/8 with a home run, and a double. He's also made lots of good plays at first base. Without him, the Tigers would be in a lot of trouble but if he plays very well, the Tigers have a better chance at winning.
EDIT: At the time of writing this article, Mike Moustakas was cleared to play. But now that he's not I have the Tigers winning
