Trail Blazer fans and NBA fans are astonished by how many breakouts there has been since the start of the NBA Bubble. One breakout is taking place from Trail Blazer’s second-year guard, Gary Trent Jr. The Trail Blazers needed some help to come towards the restart while adding Veteran Carmelo Anthony they still weren’t in playoff talks. In Trent’s 1 year with Duke University, he averaged 14.5 points per game, playing over 30 minutes on average in 37 total games. Gary was drafted in the second round of the 2018-19 NBA Draft, which he later played fewer than 20 games in his first season, throughout the next season he steadily gained more minutes which increased stats, averaging 8.7 PPG while shooting over 40% from the 3 point line and the field. Once the NBA bubble started the Trail Blazers player Trent at the guard position playing 26 minutes. In those 26 minutes played on 7/31 shooting 4 of 5 from the 3 point line, he finished with 17 points.
The First Games after the Suspended Season:
Throughout the next games, Head Coach Terry Stotts went on the play an 8 man rotation including Gary Trent Jr who later played an average of 33 minutes in the first 6 games of the NBA Bubble. In the 6 games of the restart, the Trail Blazers have won 4. In those 4 games that were played Trent averaged 18 PPG Shooting over 42% from three. If Gary keeps this up this will add a lot of help to an already 3 Point Shooting Team trying to get in the playoffs.
Possible clinching/elimination scenarios for Tuesday:
MEMPHIS clinches a play-in game with a win OR with losses by Phoenix and San Antonio
PORTLAND clinches a play-in game with a win AND with losses by Phoenix and San Antonio
PHOENIX is eliminated with a loss AND a Portland win
SAN ANTONIO is eliminated with a loss AND a win by EITHER Portland or Phoenix
Will the now 4th leading Trail Blazer’s scorer Gary Trent Jr be sufficient to get the Trail Blazers to the Playoffs?
Remember Trent was a 2nd Round Draft Pick.
