During the NBA playoffs we saw many young teams and players show off their true potential. A team that people walked away from the playoffs impressed with was the Denver Nuggets. Before the 2019-20 season many analyst and experts had this team on the outside championship contenders. Nobody gave this young team a shot because everyone was obsessed with the Lakers vs Clippers rivalry. Well, its safe to say that they will not surprise the NBA world ever again because they will be around for a long time coming. This brought the idea to my head, could they be the next dynasty? After the development we witnessed from each one of their young players this caused many to say this team will compete for a title in the 2020-21 season.
First, we must start with the head of the snake Nikola Jokic. Before the playoffs many people considered him one of the best center in the game, but after the playoffs there was no doubt he is the best. During their playoff run he averaged 24.4 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assist. We all knew that he could facilitate an offense, but what stood out for most was his ability to score at all 3 levels. He is a combination of Dirk Nowitzski and Marc Gasol in one. And this guy is only 25-years old he isn't even in his prime. Next, we move on to Jamal Murray. It's safe to say he had elevated his game in this playoff run. He went from averaging 18 ppg. in the regular season to 26.5 ppg. in the post season. He also had 2 50-point games and 1 40-point game.
Murray, was drafted in 2016 and he has been an under the radar player since he arrived in the league. But it is safe to say he is now on every teams scouting report going into next season. His ability to play the 2 man game with Nikola Jokic is a beautiful thing to watch. This is another player who has not reached his prime. He is just 23-year old. Another young player that showed up big for this team was Michael Porter Jr. Coming out of high school, he was regarded as the best player in the country and projected to be the number 1 pick in all mock drafts. But he suffered a back injury and missed his college season , only playing a few tournament games. He fell to the Nuggets in the 2018 draft at 18. He missed his entire rookie year with the same back injury but he returned for his second year.
During the regular season he appeared in 55 games for about 16 minutes per game while putting up 9.3 ppg and 4 rebounds. During the playoffs he began to get more minutes due to his production in the 8 seeding games where he had 2 30-point games and 1-20 point game. We all know this guy has the potential to be an all-NBA player. Moving forward this guy will put up big numbers especially playing alongside a playmaker like Nikola Jokic the future is bright. Last, this team has a wild card player. Bol Bol the son of former NBA player Manute Bol.
Bol Bol is a 7-2 center who can score it at all 3 levels as well as play great defense. During the 8 seeding games he showed us flashes of greatness. He, much like Michael Porter Jr. slipped in the NBA draft because of an injury in college. The only question teams had about this guy was his ability to stay healthy. If Bol can remain healthy he will be un-guardable with his 7'8 wingspan. No one in the NBA will be able to contain this guy. This kid is only 21-years old. As you can see the Nuggets have numerous young players who are all special in their own right. This team with its young age and great front office has the making to be a championship organization moving forward.
