Yesterday the habs made a huge mistake and signed Joel Edmundson to a 4 year 3.5 million AAV contract. This is a horrible signing for the habs. Joel Edmundson is nothing special he is at best a bottom pairing dman and is a nightmare if you give him more than 2 mill a year yet the habs sign him to a sizeable contract and I can't wrap my head around why they would sign him.
Yes there is a possibility than Bergevin has a trick up his sleeve and it will pan out but I highly doubt it. Looking at the image above you can see that he is a liability basically everywhere and has an ok shot. I think unless a miracle happens it is safe to say that this will be a bad contract and at this time the habs can't afford ANY bad contracts. They could use that money to sign high-profile free agents and contend or just save money and sign your potentially money hungry prospects and young guns when their ELCs end.
This is a bad signing and kills the habs chances at being able to afford high-profile free agents and they may not be able to sign all the free agents they want to sign this year but also in years to come.
