Luka Doncic is a future MVP. There is no doubt in my mind he will win the award at some point in his career and it may be as soon as next year.
His playstyle is an art form.
Let's start with the stats. Doncic was unanimously named to the all-bubble first team, averaging a 30 point, 10 rebound, and 10 assist triple-double on 48% shooting. Freakish numbers.
Additionally, against the Clippers, many analysts favorite to win the title and one of the best defensive teams in the league, Doncic has averaged 31.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 9.8 assists on 52% from the field. More triple-double numbers.
And during the series, Luka set his place at second for most points in a player's first 2 career playoff games with 70. For reference, players in the top 5 include Chris Paul, George Mikan, Dr. J, and Kareem Abdul-Jabaar.
Luka's awareness and IQ are of the highest in the game. He regularly makes split-second passing decisions and is a great pick and roll player.
Luka's signature pass is the overhead pass. This pass fires like a bullet and is most used when Luka is passing to a teammate in the corner for a three. This pass allows the ball to clear defenders and is very accurate.
The International guard is also one of the tallest two guards in the game, standing at 6' 7''. Luka constantly uses his size to his advantage. Luka drives into the paint and uses his body to perform a combination of spin moves, fadeaways, floaters, and of course his euro step.
One thing that has been questionable about Luka's game is the three-point shot. Although many people perceive him as a great shooter, he shot a poor 32% from three this season. Luka may have an exceptional step-back jumper, but the efficiency hasn't been there...until this series against the Clippers.
I guess playoff Luka is just different. Luka has shot 38 percent from deep during this series and even got a "Bang!" from Mike Green as he hit the game-winner in game 4.
This series has been my favorite to watch and I hope Luka and the Mavs come up on top.
