Here are my top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL for this upcoming season:
#10 Kirk Cousins
Kirk started his career off with my favorite team the Washington Redskins. He first started in 2015 when the Redskins realized RG3 wasn't their future. He started off hot and a couple of his teams went to the playoffs. After getting paid in Minnesota with a 3 year $84 million contract, he was expected to do big things, but kind of has dissapointed. The Vikings are still in playoff contention, but it would be hard.
#9 Carson Wentz
The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Wentz with the 2nd overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft. His rookie year was a bit shaky, but in 2017 Carson Wentz became an MVP candidate. He got injured late in the year though and lost the award. Either way he ended up winning a superbowl as an Eagle that year. Despite all his injuries, he is still a very talented quarterback.
#8 Matthew Stafford
The Lions drafted Stafford 1st overall in the 2009 NFL draft. With help of Calvin Johnson, his career has been really amazing according to the stats. His career has also sadly been derailed by injury. Matt's team hasn't been competitive for the past few seasons. If his Lions defense gets better they have potential.
#7 Matt Ryan
The Falcons drafted Ryan with the 3rd pick in the 2008 draft. Like Stafford, he has had a generational type of wide receiver in Juilio Jones to help him and his 2016 MVP campaign. Ryan has had a very up and down career, while the stats look good some years the Falcons dissapoint. The Falcons run a pass heavy offense, so Ryan will always get the passing yards and touchdowns. The Falcons are in a very hard division and I wouldn't expect them to make the playoffs.
#6 Deshaun Watson
The Texans spent the 12th pick on quarterback Deshaun Watson in 2017, who was arguably the best quarterback in that draft coming out of college. Like the past two quarterbacks on my list, Watson has had an amazing wide reciever in Deandre Hopkins to help him out. Deshaun is also a very very good athlete and is a top 3 scrambler in the NFL. He lead his team to a comeback win in the playoffs last year and almost beat the Chiefs. I would expect the Texans in playoff contention this year.
#5 Aaron Rodgers
The Packers drafted Aaron in the 2005 draft with the 24th pick. Aaron is one of the best quarterbacks of the last 15 years. Aaron gets a lot of hate for no reason, and I still think he is a very elite quarterback. He won a Super Bowl after surprising the whole NFL beating Vick's Falcons and Big Ben's Steelers in the Super Bowl. He has also won the MVP twice. He is one of the most accurate and consistent quarterbacks ever and the Packers will probably win the division this year.
#4 Drew Brees
The San Diego Chargers drafted Brees with the first pick in the second round in the 2001 draft. He soon made his way to New Orleans where he really made his name known. He has the most passing yards of all time and the most touchdowns of all time - which is incredible. He also helped his reciever Michael Thomas have the most catches in a seson ever in 2019. Even though he may never win a regular season MVP, he is definitely going to the Hall of Fame.
#3 Russell Wilson
Russ was drafted with the 75th pick in the 2012 NFL draft. A fun fact is that two years earlier he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the MLB draft. He is now a one-time Super Bowl champion. He has always impressed with his speed, craftiness and work ethic. He has the record for wins through his first 7 seasons and is one of the most consistent players in history. Expect the Seahawks to make the playoffs this year and maybe win their division.
#2 Lamar Jackson
The MVP of the 2019 season was drafted 32nd overall in the 2018 NFL draft. He lead the Ravens to the AFC Championship in his first year starting last year. Despite losing to the Titans, he had an amazing season where he broke Michael Vick's QB rushing yard record in a single season. Everyone is expecting big things from Lamar next season. Lamar has recently been crowned the Madden 21 cover so congrats Lamar!
Before my #1 pick, two Honorable Mentions:
Dak Prescott and Tom Brady
Dak Prescott: I may be biased as a Redskins fan, but I don't see him as the franchise Cowboys quarterback some people do. He was close to making this list, but I chose not to put him here.
Tom Brady: I know I may get a lot of hate for this, but even though Tom Brady is the G.O.A.T. I don't think he is nearly as good as 2018 Tom and this is a ranking for the 2020 season. Last year was a struggle for him, but I think he will bounce back this year. I had him at #11 at my rankings.
#1 Patrick Mahomes
The MVP of the 2018 NFL season was drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 2017 draft by the Cheifs. He sat behind Alex Smith for a year and threw for 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns the first year he started. I think if he didn't get injured last year he would've won MVP again. He is a one-time Super Bowl champion and Super Bowl MVP. He and Lamar will run the NFL for years to come.
