The regular season is coming to a close and the playoff picture is getting clearer and clearer. This week the Texans and Broncos got knocked out of the playoffs, and I will only be ranking the other 26 teams that still have a chance at making the playoffs. (Sorry this is a day late by the way)
26 Detroit Lions
The Lions actually played pretty well against the Packers, but they needed to get the upset if they want to prove themselves. The injury to Stafford isn’t going to help with that.
25 Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys absolutely lit up the Bengals, but it’s the Bengals so no one is surprised.
24 San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers really just couldn’t keep up with Chase Young and the tough Washington defense. Nick Mullens was just overwhelmed all game.
23 Las Vegas Raiders
The Raiders are the perfect showcase of how important a defense is. We see teams like the Steelers win games with their defense alone, mean while the Raiders are losing games 44-27 against a average offense.
22 Atlanta Falcons
Last week I had the Falcons in my top 20 because they almost beat the Saints. Losing to the Chargers really makes me regret doing that.
21 Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings were fighting for their playoff spot, sadly they came up short. The Buccaneers were able to stop Dalvin Cook, forcing Kirk Cousins to come out of his comfort zone.
20 Chicago Bears
Every year Mitch Trubisky has two games that makes him look like an elite quarterback, this was one of those games. If he plays even half as well as he did on Sunday more consistently he can be a franchise quarterback.
19 Philadelphia Eagles
I feel like Jalen Hurts is getting way more credit then he deserves for this win. I think the main reason they won was because of Miles Sanders. When he gets the ball good things happen.
18 New York Giants
Daniel Jones shouldn’t have been playing, he didn’t look healthy at all. Also, how do you let Hassan Reddick get 5 sacks and 3 forced fumbles. That’s one of the best defensive performances of the year (and worst offensive performances).
17 Carolina Panthers
The Panthers played a really close game with the Broncos and lost, but I still think the Panthers are better because they have the most valuable offensive player in the league (not including quarterbacks), Christian McCaffery coming off the IR soon (maybe not this week though).
16 New England Patriots
The Patriots are no longer capable of winning AFC west for the first time in a very long time. Now they are on thin ice.
15 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers did win, but it wasn’t very convincing. If it weren’t for poor play by Dan Bailey the Buccaneers may be facing another loss.
14 Seattle Seahawks
This week the Seahawks didn’t show me anything that surprising. Yes they beat the Jets by 37, we already knew their offense was good, I want to see their defense do well against a good team and I don’t think I will.
13 Washington Football Team
Washington’s defense has become elite, being able to carry the below average offense to a 8 point win over the 49ers (keep in mind Alex Smith and Antonio Gibson were injured).
12 Arizona Cardinals
Going into the game against the Giants the Cardinals were on a 3 game losing streak. Their defense showed up on Sunday and feasted on the Giants.
11 Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins may’ve lost but they were able to go toe to toe with the best in the league despite the multiple injuries.
10 Cleveland Browns
The Browns have a phenomenal offense that can consistently score, but their defense allows the other team to score with the same frequency. This leads to many shootouts such as that Ravens game.
9 Baltimore Ravens
Lamar Jackson is really starting to look like the player that he was last year. The Ravens may have escaped Baltimore with a win, but they shouldn’t feel happy considering that they allowed the Browns to score 42 points.
8 Tennessee Titans
Derrick Henry ran all over the Jaguars, we’re now at the point of the season where Derrick Henry reaches his peak.
7 Pittsburgh Steelers
The Steelers are on a major slump on offense. The defense can’t carry them to a win against teams like the Bills. If they want to beat really good teams they have to play really good in all 3 phases of the game.
6 Los Angeles Rams
The Rams are a incredible team with a super-genius as a coach. As long as teams don’t overwhelm Jared Goff they’re fine.
5 Indianapolis Colts
The Colts have a solid offense that really capitalized on the below average Raiders defense. Now that T.Y. Hilton is playing like we all know he can this team is getting even scarier.
4 New Orleans Saints
Taysom Hill is a career backup, he has to play really well if he wants me to change my mind. He is the main reason they lost that game (other then the run defense that didn’t play like it normally does).
3 Buffalo Bills
The Bills showed the Steelers their place mainly because of great play by Stefon Diggs. If he keeps playing like this he may be in the discussion for best wide receiver in the league.
2 Green Bay Packers
The Packers nearly lost against the Chase Daniel led Lions. I guess they still won but a team as talented as the Packers should blow them out. This near loss to the Lions was a major reality check for the Packers.
1 Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs had yet another game in which they looked beatable, but won because of a late push by Mahomes and the Chiefs.
