NFL Week 4 Power Rankings Part 2

In the first part of these power rankings we saw the unpredictable virus negatively affect the Titans and Vikings’ ranking. We also saw two games that caused some changes at the top of the rankings. In order to see those changes at the top we need to get through the first 11 teams.

15 Chicago Bears

Like I said during the offseason, Nick Foles is a perfect scheme fit for Matt Nagy and Bill Lazor’s offense. He clearly loves throwing the ball to Anthony Miller and Allen Robinson. David Montgomery has been a great running back since the start of the season. The defense is starting to play like it did back in 2018, of course it’s not quite there yet but it’s getting close. Khalil Mack is returning to his dominant status, this causes the rest of the defense to play much better.

14 Indianapolis Colts

Now this team is starting to play to their potential. Philip Rivers still isn’t playing great but he’s doing good enough. As long as he doesn’t turn the ball over, he’s doing what he needs to. This offense plays smash mouth football really well, which isn’t surprising because the Colts’ offensive line is spectacular and Johnathan Taylor is a phenomenal young running back. The defense is looking like a top 5 defense in the league, with talented players such as Darius Leonard and the new defensive lineman, Deforest Buckner, who they traded a 1st round pick for. Frank Reich can help this team climb up the rankings even more.

13 Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals are playing like a playoff team. Their entire offense revolves around getting the ball in DeAndre Hopkins’ hands and it works. Kyler Murray can throw twice as well as he can run, and he’s great at running. The entire offense revolves around Murray and Dhop, but Murray can target future hall of famer, Larry Fitzgerald, or Christian Kirk if he needs to. If Murray feels like he can’t find a running lane he can dump the ball off to Kenyan Drake. The defense is horrendous, allowing 58 points. Last year’s defensive player of the year candidate, Chandler Jones, is yet to get a sack this season and Isaiah Simmons doesn’t seem to have the big impact on the team the Cardinals were expecting when they drafted him. The offense is good enough to carry the terrible Cardinals’ defense to the playoffs and I’m hoping they make a post season appearance.

12 Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys somehow went toe to toe with Seahawks and almost won. The Cowboys’ offense is absolutely stacked with talent. Ezekiel Elliott is a beast running behind a declining (but still great) offensive line. Dak Prescott is bound to succeed in the passing game with weapons like Amari Cooper, Ceedee Lamb, Michael Gallup, and Dalton Schultz. The defense is the team’s weak spot. Allowing 97 points so far this season. Keep in mind they have played against some of the NFL’s best offenses, the Seahawks, Falcons, and Rams. If Aldon Smith and the defense can avoid letting up this many points this team will definitely climb up the rankings.

11 San Francisco 49ers

This team received a unbelievable amount of bad luck, yet they still won. Not only did they win, but they destroyed the opposition, winning 36-9 against the Giants. Nick Mullens played extremely well for a backup quarterback, throwing for 343 yards. Despite losing a lot of players this offense was explosive and had a great passing game. The defense had to find other ways to get pressure on the quarterback because of all the injuries to the defensive line and they did. The rest of the defense did great especially the linebacker core.

10 Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are seemingly using a new scheme that is meant to keep Brady comfortable and familiar with the offense. This is why Rob Gronkowski had such a large role in the offense. Mike Evans and Chris Godwin are great but it seems like Brady has the largest connection with Scotty Miller. The running game is solid, but it could be better with a couple upgrades to the offensive line. I would argue that they have a better defense then offense. They allow 2.9 yards per carry. They already racked up 12 sacks and only allowed 6 touchdowns this season. Lavonte David and the Buccaneers will absolutely be a playoff team this season.

9 Las Angeles Rams

The Rams have one of the best offensive minds in the league, Sean McVay. He allows Jared Goff to use his many offensive weapons to their fullest potential. The defense is spectacular. Aaron Donald is the NFL’s most disruptive player and he makes sure quarterback’s don’t get any more then 3 seconds in the pocket. Quarterbacks have to make these quick decisions without being able to throw it to their primary wide receiver because Jalen Ramsey will most likely have them locked down. Sean McVay and the Rams are absolutely a top 10 team in the league.

8 Buffalo Bills

I’ll finally admit, I was wrong about the Bills. They have a successful running back, their receivers are phenomenal, and their offensive line is solid. I still don’t take back anything I said about Josh Allen. He’s still a terribly inaccurate quarterback that makes horrible decisions. He will still consistently under throw and over throw his receivers. A great example of his bad accuracy is the screen pass he threw this week that hit the ground. He consistently does terrible things like this. The defense is superb although they still need a pass rusher. This team is not as overrated as I though they were.

7 New Orleans Saints

A lot of people suddenly think this team is bad because they lost are on a losing streak. They lost the Raiders game because the Saints’ offense was just having a rough game and the Raiders took advantage. The Saints currently have the best run after the catch player in the NFL, Alvin Kamara. He currently has 285 receiving yards, 284 of those yards are after the catch. They also have the NFL’s best route runner, Micheal Thomas, coming back from injury soon. On defense they have Demario Davis and Cameron Jordan. These two are phenomenal defensive players that elevate this defense a absurd amount.

6 Pittsburgh Steelers

The Steelers have the best defense in the NFL. Tj Watt, Bud Dupree, Stephon Tuitt, and Cameron Heyward makeup the NFL’s best defensive line. The linebackers are solid and they are only going to get better as Devin Bush develops. The secondary is amazing although Minkah Fitzpatrick isn’t playing like himself this year. The offense isn’t great. Juju isn’t ready to be the primary receiver but he’s developing quickly. James Connor is playing great and he will definitely be the lead back unless he gets injured. Ben Roethlisberger may find himself another super bowl ring if everything goes right.

5 New England Patriots

I wish I could rank this team outside of the top 5 but they are just too good. They made Rex Burkhead look like one of the best players in the league. Cam Newton and Julian Edelman have been lighting the NFL on fire. The offense may be good but the defense is even better. They don’t have a great front 7 but their defensive backs are elite, Belichick knows this so he uses nickel formation. Sadly the dynasty isn’t over and the Patriots may get a 7th ring.

4 Seattle Seahawks

I know what you’re thinking. How are the Seahawks not top 3? Well they dropped in the rankings because of a bad performance this week against the Cowboys. The defense severely struggled against the Cowboys high powered offense allowing 31 points. The defense isn’t bad but it isn’t good enough to get the team into the top 3. The offense is still spectacular. Russell Wilson is the best quarterback in the NFL and he has Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf to throw the ball to. Pete Carroll will have to work very hard to prove that this team is better then the 3 I have ahead of the Seahawks.

3 Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens are great but they cannot play from behind. Lamar Jackson is currently 0-10 as a starter when down 10 or more in the first quarter. The Ravens’ offense can dismantle bad teams but they struggle against well coached teams, such as the Chiefs. The Ravens’ defense has great corners but they need help when against a receiver core like the Chiefs’ receiver core. The corners ended up giving Tyreek Hill and the Chiefs’ wide receivers too much of a cushion. This led to the Chiefs doing repeated short passes, taking advantage of the Ravens’ fear of getting beat deep. This is where it becomes obvious the Ravens need someone to replace Earl Thomas.

2 Green Bay Packers

The Packers are absolutely deserving of this spot with how Aaron Rodger has been playing. Devante Adams is becoming a top 3 receiver in the NFL with his perfect route running and reliable hands. Aaron Jones is a top tier running back with a nose for the end zone. The defense has been good enough to let their offense win them games with stars like Jaire Alexander and Kenny Clark. If the team can keep playing like they’ve been playing I expect them to go very far in the playoffs.

1 Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs have reclaimed their throne, proving they are better then the Ravens this week. Patrick Mahomes is a elite quarterback that can make any throw from anywhere. Patrick Mahomes has multiple people to throw to such as Tyreek Hill, Sammy Watkins, Travis Kelce, and his newest weapon, Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who can catch just as well as he can run. The defense has became one of the better defenses in the league over the offseason. Chris Jones and Frank Clark are one of the NFL’s best pass rush duos. Tyrann Mathieu is the glue that holds this team together. Andy Reid might lead this team to their second super bowl in a row.
