Predicting NHL free agent signings 2021

The 2021 NHL free agent class is stacked! From the greatest goal scorer ever to former MVP's this free agent class is loaded with talent. Expect lots of massive contracts being signed in 2021. Below I will be predicting where some of the players sign and why.

Alex Ovechkin prediction: My prediction is that ovie signs a two-year deal with the Capitals worth $9.5 million AAV. Then finishes his career in the KHL.

Reasoning: Yes Ovechkin is 35 years of age. But he has showed no signs of slowing down anytime soon. He led the NHL in goals last season and led the Capitals to the playoffs. Yes the Capitals don't have a lot of cap room, but it wouldn't make any sense to part ways with the best player they have ever had.

Ryan Getzlaf prediction: I predict that Getzlaf signs a one-year deal and stays with the Ducks for $7.2 million.

Reasoning: Yes Ryan Getzlaf is 36 years old, but he still had a solid season last year finishing with 13 goals, 29 assists in 69 games played. He has been the captain for many seasons and I think the Ducks will recognize that and show him the respect he deserves.

Taylor Hall prediction: My prediction is that he stays in Buffalo and signs a four-year deal worth $10.1 million AAV.

Reasoning: Taylor Hall talked to his agent and signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Sabres. The reason he did this is because the market is dry from the pandemic and it is a "prove it" year for Hall. I believe he plays fantastic with Jack Eichel and he signs a massive deal to stay in Buffalo.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins prediction: I predict he signs a six-year deal worth $45 million in total with the Edmonton Oilers.

Reasoning: Hopkins hasn't been the player the Oilers thought they were getting when they drafted him 1st overall. But he still has been a all star caliber player for many seasons. Last season Nugent-Hopkins was almost a point for game player, Finishing the season with 61 points in 65 games with the Oilers. On top of all that Nugent-Hopkins understands he is playing in a contract year and this is his chance to secure the bag. I expect him to do that and sign long term with Edmonton.

Above is my predictions for the most notable free agents in 2021.
