This past week, Orlando City played 2 games, one against rivals Atlanta United, and the other against Montreal Impact. Orlando City was the home side for the
Orlando-Atlanta match-up. The Lions would hunt down the Five Stripes in a dominant 4-1 victory, the first win against Atlanta in Exploria Stadium. The Lions would then travel north to New Jersey due to travel restrictions, to play the Impact, which would be the last away game for the regular season on Sunday night.
Headed into the match, Orlando City could secure a top 4 seed in the Eastern Conference and a guaranteed home playoff game with a win AND IF New York City FC draw or lose against NYRB. The match started out rather slow with both Orlando and Montreal not getting many chances to go for goal. With the 1st half coming to an end, Mauricio Pererya, who finally returned from injury, played a beautiful through ball for rookie Daryl Dike, who would slot home a goal in the 39th minute. This would be the match's only goal, and Orlando City would hold on for the 1-0 victory. Not much action happened in the 2nd half either, until the last few minutes from a few shots by Montreal.
Unfortunately, Orlando will have to wait to truly secure a top 4 seed, since NYCFC ended up thrashing NYRB 5-2. However, Orlando has a game in hand, having played only 21/23 matches this season so far. Orlando can secure a top 4 seed on Wednesday against the Columbus Crew, who are TIED with Orlando for 3rd place, with both teams each having 38 points and a 1.81 PPG. Orlando-Columbus will be one of the most important games this season, as a win for Orlando can secure a top 4 seed.
The final matchday of the season, Decision Day, will be on November 8th. Orlando will host Nashville SC. Next Sunday will finalize the standings for every team.
Orlando City currently sit in 4th with 38 points and 1.81 PPG. The Lions now have a record of 10W-8D-3L.
