Illinois +20.5 at Wisconsin -20.5 Friday 10/23 7:00 BTN
Both teams will come into this game with the name James McCourt on their mind. He kicked the game-winning field goal when Illinois upset sixth-ranked Wisconsin in 2019. Both Illinois and Wisconsin have to figure out who is the top running back as both of their rushing leaders in 2019, Jonathan Taylor and Reggie Corbin, are gone. Wisconsin's projected starting quarterback Jack Coan is out indefinitely with an injury, which will leave the start to highly touted freshman Graham Mertz. The game will be very close in the first half, but Wisconsin should show their dominance on both lines later in the game and eventually come out with the victory.
Prediction: Wisconsin 31 Illinois 20
Rutgers +12 at Michigan State -12 Saturday 10/24 11:00 BTN
This game is going to be sloppy. Rutgers is just awful, and Michigan State left a lot to be desired on offense last year. The Spartans have not released a starting quarterback yet. It is down to Rocky Lombardi, Theo Day, and Payton Thorne. Rutgers has a quarterback battle of their own in Nebraska transfer Noah Vedral and Artur Sitkowski. Michigan State will dominate Rutgers on the ground with their one-two punch of Elijah Collins and Anthony Williams. I am going to give a defensive advantage to Michigan State, which should make them come out on top.
Prediction: Michigan State 24 Rutgers 10
Nebraska +26 at Ohio State -26 Saturday 10/24 11:00 FOX
Ohio State is going to flat out dominate Nebraska. Their quarterback, Justin Fields, was rumored to be the fastest on the team with a 4.30 40 yard dash. Thunder and lighting combination Master Teague and Trey Sermon will also play a part in this dominance. It looks like Nebraska will be starting dual threat Adrian Martinez at quarterback. He will be looking to get the ball to his breakout candidate receivers in Wan'Dale Robinson and Omar Manning. Ohio State's new starting cornerbacks, Sevyn Banks and Tyreke Johnson, will look to shut them down. If the Ohio State defense can make Nebraska one-dimensional, this game could get ugly fast.
Prediction: Ohio State 49 Nebraska 13
Penn State -6.5 at Indiana +6.5 Saturday 10/24 2:30 FS1
This game is going to be a lot closer than people think. Indiana has a very underrated offense led by dual-threat quarterback Michael Penix. Their top rusher and receiver in Stevie Scott and Whop Philyor return as well. Penn State is going to have to rely on Noah Cain at running back with Journey Brown's surprising medical condition, which is going to keep him from playing for the foreseeable future. Sean Clifford was fantastic at quarterback last year and should lead the game-winning drive in a trap game for the Nittany Lions.
Prediction: Penn State 34 Indiana 28
Iowa - 3.5 at Purdue +3.5 Saturday 10/24 2:30 BTN
Even though the spread says it is going to be close, it has not changed since Purdue's star receiver Rondale Moore is out with an undisclosed injury. Purdue still hasn't listed a starting quarterback, which will be a question mark as well. Iowa will be going to sophomore quarterback Spencer Petras to lead the offense after senior Nate Stanley graduated. Iowa has a much better defense, which will make important stops that will lead them to win this game.
Prediction: Iowa 30 Purdue 16
Maryland +11 at Northwestern -11 Saturday 10/24 6:30 BTN
This game was the hardest to predict because both teams are at the bottom of the Big Ten and are facing a lot of roster turnover. Maryland will be deciding between Lance Legendre and Taulia Tagovailoa at quarterback. Northwestern will use Indiana graduate transfer Peyton Ramsey. Both teams will rely on the ground game to get going early to open up the passing game later. In a game that goes down to the wire, Northwestern comes out on top with the game-winning field goal.
Prediction: Northwestern 24 Maryland 23
Michigan -3 at Minnesota +3 Saturday 6:30 ABC
College Gameday is in Minneapolis for this game. This game is going to be very back and forth. The duel at quarterback between sophomore Joe Milton at Michigan and Tanner Morgan at Penn State will be one to watch. Milton is intriguing because of his cannon for an arm and dual-threat ability. Minnesota has a first-round pick at receiver in Rashod Bateman, who will give the Michigan defense headaches all game. Both defenses will struggle and face many errors in their first game back, and Michigan will win on a field goal on their final drive.
Prediction Michigan 37 Minnesota 35
