The Celtics have a very well rounded team. Signing Kemba Walker was a success. Kemba averaged 21 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. Although, I don't think he will be an All-star next year because of the star power on the Celtics.
At the two guard, Jaylen Brown proved to be an All-star caliber player, averaging 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. Jaylen will be an All-star and will be a great piece for the future.
The real emergence of this team has been Jayson Tatum. Tatum was named to his first All-star team and many think he is a future MVP. Tatum averaged 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists on very efficient shooting. Tatum has a beautiful shot form and possesses the clutch gene. Tatum is the future of the Celtics.
Hayward will most likely opt into his 34 million dollar deal. Hayward does his part and has averaged a quiet 17 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists. When Hayward plays power forward it forces the opposing team to defend him from 3.
The Celtics also have a very promising bench for the future with players like Marcus Smart, Grant Williams, Romeo Langford, Carsen Edwards, and the GOAT: Tacko Fall.
But, when looking at this team there is a weak spot: the center position. Daniel Theis is a solid player, but can't be a starting center for a championship team. And Enes Kanter (their backup) doesn't know how to play defense.
When looking at this free agency class it is poor. The Celtics salary space is limited but there are a couple of big men that could start or backup to Theis and provide depth and defense.
An ideal big man would be Montrezl Harrell. However, unless Hayward opts out of his deal or the Celtics clear up some money he is too expensive.
When viewing affordable big man two players come to mind. First, Tristan Thompson. Thompson would most likely start over Theis and has played well on a poor Cavs team. This year Thompson averaged a career-high 12 points and 10 rebounds.
The other candidate is Aron Baynes. Baynes had a breakout season and averaged 12 points and 6 seasons. Baynes could add another shooting threat to this roster. Baynes showed his shooting ability averaging 35% from three and even made an astonishing 9 threes against the Trail Blazers.
In my opinion, the center is the second most important position (behind point guard). The Celtics need a big man they can count on. If they can't sign one they should trade for one with some of their young pieces such as Romeo Langford or Grant Williams.
The Celtics corp will evolve but they need a center to complete the team. If they find the right center I could see this team starting another dynasty.
