Week 2 Injury Report

In Week 2, there was a total of 6 torn ACLs, that has never happened before in NFL history. Here are the notable injuries during a very injury-filled Week 2 of the 2020 NFL season.

C.J. Uzomah TE/Cincinnati Bengals- Torn achilles/Out for season

Bengals starting tight end C.J. Uzomah torn his achilles during Thursday night against the Browns. It could clearly be seen ripping and sending a ripple through his calf. Uzomah is a coming star for Cincinnati at the tight end position. Until his injury, he had a total stat line of 8 catches for 87 yards and a touchdown for 2020. 2021 will have to be his year, hopefully the coaching is better by then.

Saquon Barkley RB/New York Giants- Torn ACL/Out for season

Once again Barkley is injured, this time it's more severe. In the 2nd quarter of the game against Chicago, Saquon tore his ACL and ended his season. He was shut down in Week 1 against the Steelers and had 28 yards until his injury. Barkley has made quite an injury résumé for himself over his NFL career. This deeply impacts fantasy owners more than the Giants because there was no way New York was making the playoffs. The Giants are signing former Falcons RB Devonta Freeman.

Courtland Sutton WR/Denver Broncos- Torn ACL/Out for season

Denver lost a couple key players in Week 2, one of them being Courtland Sutton in his 2020 debut.

Sutton only caught 3 passes for 66 yards and was the leading receiver for Denver, despite not playing the full game. Sutton missed Week 1 because of a shoulder injury. The number one receiver in Denver will be missed for his big play ability and matchup size against cornerbacks and DBs. This also another fantasy team hit to people who have him on your team. Jerry Jeudy will be needed much more, KJ Hammier played well so he will be looked at a lot. The running game will be more important than ever for this Denver team.

Malik Hooker S/Indianapolis Colts- Torn Achilles/Out for season

Malik was poised for a breakout year and he needed one, now with an injury the Colts may not resign him. The former Ohio State product has not played up to his college standards and the Colts took a chance on him this offseason and signed a 4-year $12.5 million contract. 7 career interceptions and 124 tackles are pretty decent numbers for a safety who has played three years. A glue piece for their secondary will miss the season and it will take a negative toll on the defense.

Bruce Irvin OLB/Seattle Seahawks- Torn ACL/Out for season

Bruce Irvin is back with the team that drafted him back in 2012. Sunday Night he was injured in a Seattle 35-30 win over New England. It has been confirmed he has torn his ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Drew Lock QB/Denver Broncos- Rotator cuff/AC joint strain/Out 2-6 weeks

As you see above, that was the play Drew Lock got injured on. He played around half of the first quarter before being sidelined. Lock went 1/5 with 20 yards and will miss at least two weeks but the team is looking to play him after their bye week(8). The injury is on his right shoulder which is his throwing shoulder.

Christian McCaffrey RB/Carolina Panthers- High ankle sprain/Out 4-6 weeks

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

A huge blow to the Panthers and fantasy teams. CMC was injured in the 4th quarter during the Panthers 31-17 loss. McCaffrey was managed nice by Tampa except for in the red-zone. Christian ran for 59 yards and 2 touchdowns while catching 4 passes for 29 yards. He is more than 50% of the offense and without him they will not score as many points, DJ Moore will be the main source of offense now.

Jimmy Garoppolo QB/San Fransisco 49ers-High ankle sprain/Questionable as of 9/22/20

Jimmy G's injury is less severe and is questionable to play in week 3. The Niners caught a break with his injury and might possible have Deebo and Richard Sherman back for week 4. Garoppolo had 131 yards and 2 touchdowns while going 14/16. He originally stayed in the game but was pulled a couple plays later.

Nick Bosa DE/San Fransisco 49ers- Torn ACL/Out for season

Nick Bosa is probably the most important loss to the 49ers. The reigning DPOY tore his ACL, then a couple plays later a teammate of his tore his ACL also. The 49ers signed DE Ezekiel Ansah Monday Night and he will take over for the two injured lineman.

Solomon Thomas DE/San Fransisco 49ers- Torn ACL/Out for season

Like Bosa, Thomas will miss the rest of 2020 with a torn ACL. His injury came only a few plays after Bosa left on the cart. Thomas needed to have a dominating year in order for San Fransisco to sign him to a new contract. He is set to hit free agency after the season.

Raheem Mostert RB/San Fransisco 49ers-MCL sprain/Out for week 3

In favor of Mostert, the 49ers traded away Matt Breida. Now with two RBs injured, the 49ers look to Jerick McKinnon and Jeff Wilson Jr. to carry the ball. Mostert had 8 carries for 92 yards and a touchdown in week 2 until his injury. Mostert will miss anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

Paris Campbell WR/Indianapolis Colts-PCL and MCL injury/Out indefinitely

Once again the Colts have to deal with injuries. Campbell had a promising first week which led to his popularity among fantasy teams. Paris Campbell will miss most likely the majority of his season. So far he has 6 receptions for 71 yards.

Tevin Coleman RB/San Fransisco 49ers-Knee injury/Placed on IR

Coleman will miss time which kills the 49ers depth. Tevin is the 3rd down/speed back and he does a decent job. He is the 5th 49er to be injured in week 2.

Cam Akers RB Los Angeles Rams- Separated ribs/Questionable as of 9/22/20

Cam Akers might play next week, but do the coaches want to risk it. Akers is another fantasy injury letdown. Cam has quickly became a part of this offense on the decoy side, but I don't believe it will lack if he does not play. Akers has totaled 52 yards this year so far.

Anthony Barr OLB/Minnesota Vikings- Pectoral tear/Out for season

One of the most important players on the Vikings defense had his season end on Sunday. Anthony Barr tore his pec and will be absent for the remainder of 2020. Barr, who has been consistent and solid for Minnesota over his career, will be a key piece missing, now teams will throw more at tight ends and take deep shots. Barr has 423 tackles and 15 sacks in his 7 year career.

Tavon Young CB/Baltimore Ravens- Torn ACL/Out for season

Tavon Young is another player who tore an ACL. A depth piece for the great Baltimore defense, Young has been a pretty solid corner who is undersized but not undervalued. He has 92 tackles and 2 sacks in his 5 year career. He has missed the 2017 and 2019 season due to injuries, it will be hard for the Ravens to sign him based of his injury history.

Tyrod Taylor QB/Los Angeles Chargers-Punctured lung/Out indefinitely

Tyrod Taylor had his lung punctured by a team doctor giving him a injection for pain in his rib area before Week 2. He has been ruled out indefinitely so rookie QB Justin Herbert will start.

Other injuries: Chiefs DE Frank Clark(illness), Jets WR Breshad Perriman(ankel), Jets WR Chris Hogan(ribs), Falcons OT Kaleb McGary(MCL sprain), Broncos DE Dre'Mont Jones(knee), Eagles guard Isaac Seumalo(knee), Jaguars CB DJ Hayden(concussion), Dolphins CB Byron Jones(groin), Giants WR Sterling Shepard(toe), Falcons safety Ricardo Allen(elbow), Falcons DE Takk McKinley(groin), Packers WR Davante Adams(hamstring), Vikings RB Mike Boone(concussion), Washington guard Brandon Scherff(knee), Bills TE Dawson Knox(concussion), and Jets CB Quincy Wilson(concussion).

(These players did not return to their individual games)
