Week 3 Game Takeaways

Week 3 has came and gone. Some upsets and close games happened this week. Here is one takeaway from each team from Week 3.

Miami Dolphins(1-2) AT Jacksonville Jaguars(1-2)

Gardner Minshew may not be the solution at QB

Myles Gaskin potential RB1

On Thursday Night, the Jacksonville Jaguars suffered defeat to the Miami Dolphins by a score of 31-13.

QB Gardner Minshew and company were thought to role over a Miami team, but the Dolphins fought to claim their first win of the season. Minshew finished by going 30/42 for 275 yards and an interception. Minshew's play wasn't entirely his fault despite a wide open receiver he overthrew as time expired in the 3rd quarter. Minshew had no time in the pocket and the offensive play calling wasn't the best, he did the best in no-huddle. The Jaguars are built like a practice squad, you can only expect so much from them.

Myles Gaskin had himself a great game. Gaskin ran for 66 yards on 22 attempts while averaging 3 yards a carry. In the passing game he hauled in all 5 passes for 29 yards. On the first drive he carried the Miami offense downfield, which led to a Preston Williams touchdown. Gaskin is in his 2nd year, and didn't have much of rookie performance. With a calm running back room and Jordan Howard a goal line back, as well as Matt Breida being injury prone and not very trustworthy with the ball, it's wide open for Myles to take the #1 spot on the depth chart.

Houston Texans(0-3) AT Pittsburgh Steelers(3-0)

Steelers run game back on track

Texans offense lacks spark

The Steelers are 3-0 with a 28-21 win over Houston on Sunday.

The running game started off slow, but when rookie RB Anthony McFarland ran for a 8 yard chunk, it took off. James Conner finished with 109 yards running, a touchdown, an average of 6.1 yards per carry, and a long run of 25 yards. The rookie McFarland had 42 yards including a 20 yard dash. The team totaled 169 rushing yards, they 387 yards in total. Pro Bowl guard David DeCastro was back in the lineup, that improved the running game and pocket for his teammates.

Next Game: AT Titans Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

The Texans started off with a 14-3 lead and let up 14 unanswered points before halftime, but answered back with a touchdown right before halftime. Houston was shut out in the second half and was held to 41 total yards. Watson felt the pressure and threw a interception, there was no spark on the offensive side. Deshaun had no help from the O-line and running game. Pittsburgh sacked Watson 5 times for a loss of 33 yards. Houston hopes to rebound to get their first win of the season.

Next Game: VS Vikings Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Chicago Bears(3-0) AT Atlanta Falcons(0-3)

Nick Foles over Mitch Trubisky

Dan Quinn seems to be the problem

Chicago comes back to beat Atlanta 30-26 with Super Bowl 52 MVP Nick Foles.

Nick Foles came in for a benched Mitch Trubisky and led the 20 unanswered point comeback. Foles finished the day 16/29 for 188 yards and 3 scores. Nick showed pocket awareness, calm and collectiveness, and smart decisions. Both QBs had an interception, Trubisky had a touchdown and 128 yards. Head coach Matt Nagy said he will be meeting with the offensive coaches to decide who to go with from this point forward. You don't bench your starting QB if you think the backup can't win the game, it's obvious who the starter should be. It has been announced that Nick Foles will start against the Colts.

Next Game: VS Colts Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

The Falcons once again blew a lead in the 4th. The Bears scored 20 unanswered points and the defense had terrible tackling and coverage. In the 4th quarter, each Falcons possession had 3 or 4 plays. In the first half, each possession had either a lengthy drive or a quick score with good offensive play calls. Dan Quinn started a run, run, pass technique which did not work. Short gains and incompletions hurt the Falcons along with missed field goals. Bad play calling from Dan Quinn, if the Falcons want to win, this should be his last season with the team.

Next Game: AT Packers Mon,10/5/20 4:15pm

Los Angeles Rams(2-1) AT Buffalo Bills(3-0)

Rams' comeback ability

Josh Allen continues impressive season

In the thrilling 35-32 Buffalo Bills victory, the Rams proved they can comeback from large deficits.

The Los Angeles Rams can close to completing a 25 point comeback. Jared Goff and Cooper Kupp exploded as Goff threw 107 of his 321 passing yards to the #1 receiver. Kupp also shared one of Jared's 2 touchdowns. Darrell Henderson rushed for 114 yards and a score. The Rams scored 29 unanswered points and gave up the game winning touchdown with 15 seconds left. Both sides of the ball started off ugly with Goff throwing an early interception and Buffalo scoring 14 straight points. The Rams are still in the NFC West and are tied with the Cardinals for 2nd place.

Next Game: VS Giants Sun,10/4/20 12:05pm

Josh Allen tossed 311 yards accompanied by 4 touchdowns, including a game winning score. Allen also rushed for a score, totaling 5 touchdowns in one game. Allen is the first QB to 10 touchdowns, it has only been 3 weeks. He has just over 1000 yards passing and his only interception came against the Rams. Josh has had back-to-back 4 touchdown games and has had three straight multiple touchdown games. He hasn't completed less than 24 passes and has only thrown the one interception. Allen has been impressive in his third year and can finish as a top 10 QB this year if he continues on this path.

Next Game: AT Raiders Sun,10/4/20 12:25pm

Washington Football Team(1-2) AT Cleveland Browns(2-1)

Haskins' inconsistency

Nick Chubb is a top 5 RB

The Browns have their first winning record since Week 14 of 2014. They accomplished that in their 34-20 victory over the Football Team.

Dwayne Haskins has looked both good and bad so far this season. On Sunday, Haskins was 21/37 with 2 touchdowns but 3 interceptions. The first two games he had no interceptions and a touchdown, he also played each game with 150+ passing yards. Washington is going all in on Haskins, but they need to build an O-line around him and add a few weapons for him.

Next Game: VS Ravens Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Nick Chubb had a couple of big touchdown runs. His stat line was 108 yards on 19 carries and score two touchdowns. Chubb averaged over 5.5 yards in all three of his games and has had a rush of more than 20 yards each game as well. He ran for 100+ yards in back-to-back games while scoring 2TDs in both. He is a hard runner who is hard to bring down so you better wrap up. Chubb enjoyed a 1400+ yard season last year and is off to a slow start but is starting to warm up.

Next Game: AT Dallas Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Tennessee Titans(3-0) AT Minnesota Vikings(0-3)

Titans are proving doubters wrong

Justin Jefferson is the new Stefon Diggs

The Titans stole a victory from right under Minnesota's nose in a 31-30 thriller.

Tennessee is showing comeback promise and is proving doubters wrong. They came from behind against Denver and now Minnesota. Tannehill threw for 321 yards and no touchdowns, Henry ran for 119 yards and two touchdowns, and Kalif Raymond caught 3 passes for 118 yards. The defense stonewalled Kirk Cousins on the final drive but allowed rookie receiver Justin Jefferson to have a career day. If the Titans want to remain undefeated, they have to get their defense in order for Pittsburgh next Sunday.

Next Game: VS Steelers Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Justin Jefferson had 7 catches for 175 yards and a touchdown. He is the first Vikings rookie since Randy Moss to have 100+ receiving yards in the first half. Jefferson filled the role of Stefon Diggs and he was drafted to do so. Jefferson had an average of 25 yards per catch. Justin made the loss seem not so bad, now the team and their fans know what potential he holds. Jefferson had more than 50% of Kirk's passing yards, he had 251 and Justin had 175. Hopefully this is the first of many breakout games for the rising star, might want to have a safety over the top on this speed demon.

Next Game: AT Houston Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Las Vegas Raiders(2-1) AT New England Patriots(2-1)

The Raider offense has to include more playmakers

A motivated Michel is ok without James White

The Patriots rolled over the Las Vegas Raiders by a score of 36-20 on Sunday.

The Raiders two biggest offensive playmakers were held to a total of 71 yards rushing, 5 catches for 22 yards, and no touchdowns. Hunter Renfrow did enjoy a productive day catching 6 passes for 84 yards and a score. Las Vegas needs to get the ball to more than just the big three. Zay Jones, Foster Moreau, and Bryan Edwards are three other playmakers that have not gotten a lot of targets this season. Hopefully they can get Henry Ruggs going when he gets back from injury. Las Vegas needs to spread the ball around more evenly so Waller and Jacobs don't get shutdown and it's only the Hunter Renfrow show.

Next Game: VS Buffalo Sun,10/4/20 12:25pm

Sony Michel had 117 rushing yards on 9 attempts, he had 140 total yards. Michel enjoyed a big day being the featured back and dandy even have to share that much time with the other backs. His long run of 48 yards secured his big day. James White and Rex Burkhead are in their 30s and are nearing the end of their prime, Sony will be the unanimous #1 back in the next few years.

Next Game: AT Cheifs Sun,10/4/20 12:25pm

San Fransisco 49ers(2-1) AT New York Giants(0-3)

Brandon Aiyuk looked like a first round pick

Giants can't score without Barkley

The 49ers returned to MetLife stadium for the second straight week. They prevailed in a 36-9 beat down of the New York Giants.

Rookie receiver Brandon Aiyuk had himself a game. He had 31 yards on the ground including a 19 yard touchdown. He also had 5 catches for 70 yards while averaging 14 yards per catch. Aiyuk looked like Deebo Samuel, who is currently on IR. Brandon had 101 of the teams' 420 yards. The rookie is so far filling the role of what San Fransisco needs, but the question is how will he play once Deebo comes back?

Next Game: VS Eagles Sun,19/4/20 4:20pm

The Giants offense had 231 total yards. The leading rusher was Daniel Jones with 49 yards. New York turned the ball over 4 times, 2 fumbles, an interception, and turnover on downs. Their longest drive was 13 plays and it ended in a field goal. The Giants didn't even enter the red zone. Daniel Jones and Darius Slayton both fumbled and lost the ball. New York was a mess without Saquon even on the field. He provides a scapegoat for Jones when all-else fails, no other running back does that for the offense as of Week 3.

Next Game: AT Rams Sun,10/4/20 12:05pm

Cincinnati Bengals(0-2-1) AT Philadelphia Eagles(0-2-1)

Burrow still playing lights out

More injuries for the Eagles

Philadelphia and Cincinnati took their Week 3 matchup to a 23-23 tie, the first tie this season.

Joe Burrow, once again threw for over 300 yards. He completed 31/44 passes, 312 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Burrow managed his first overtime pretty well, even though their 3 possessions ended on punts. He has thrown back-to-back 300+ yard games with 2+ touchdowns as well in both games. He found the rookie Tee Higgins on two touchdowns and 3 other receptions. Despite the lack of an offensive line or good coaching, Burrow is making a strong case that he should be OROY.

Next Game: VS Jaguars Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Philadelphia suffered four big injuries, WR DeSean Jackson(hamstring), TE Dallas Goedert(ankle), LT Jason Peters(unknown), and CB Avonte Maddox(ankle). Dallas Goedert and Avonte Maddox will miss time with their ankle injuries. DeSean Jackson shouldn't miss time and neither should Peters. The Eagles always seem to be at the mercy of the injury bug. Jackson missed all but three games last season and Jason Peters seems to be hurt every other week. Injuries mainly affect the O-line and the receiver core, that is why Wentz has no time in the pocket. Goedert is a big part of this offense, it will be difficult for Wentz to not have a big target behind Zach Ertz.

Next Game: AT 49ers Sun,10/4/20 4:20pm

New York Jets(0-3) AT Indianapolis Colts(2-1)

Sam Darnold or Adam Gase

Defense provides for Indianapolis

The Colts defense slaughtered the Jets with a 36-7 victory at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Who is the problem in New York, Sam Darnold or Adam Gase? It is Adam Gase for sure but is Darnold playing poorly because of Gase? Darnold threw 168 yards on 17 completed passes, a touchdown, and 3 interceptions. Darnold has not lived up to where he was drafted, third overall. So far, Darnold has 4INTs and 3TDs with 562 yards in three games. He has no offensive line or playmakers. New York is a mess right now, Jets fans have started a petition to fire Adam Gase. We will have to see if Darnold can turn it around.

Next Game: VS Broncos Thu,10/1/20 4:20pm

Indianapolis's defense had two pick-sixes and then another interception. The defense also had 2 sacks. The defense allowed 260 total yards and shutdown Frank Gore and Chris Hogan. Xavier Rhodes had 2INTs with a pick-six and T.J. Carrie had the other pick-six. The defense pressured Darnold and got him to make terrible reads and throws, something the Colts defense is good at. It was the defense that set up good field position for the offense to score. Indianapolis's defense has had two strong outings and looks to continue their dominate performance next week.

Next Game: AT Chicago Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Carolina Panthers(1-2) AT Los Angeles Chargers(1-2)

Panthers stop running game

Chargers turnovers

The Panthers won their first game of the season by a score of 21-16.

The Panthers defense stopped the Los Angeles running attack and held them to only 117 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Carolina made Herbert throw and improvise in the pocket, he turned the ball over twice. The Panthers defense forced 3 fumbles and scored 10 points off the fumbles. Austin Ekeler was held to only 59 yards on 12 carries, Joshua Kelly was also held to 43 yards on 8 carries. Defense did its job and held the Chargers offense to only 16 points.

Next Game: VS Arizona Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

The Chargers had 4 turnovers and Herbert was responsible for two of those with a interception and fumble. Los Angeles has five turnovers on the year, one of the highest in the NFL. Herbert was improvising most of the game, as the offensive line did not hold. Los Angeles needs to fix the turnovers quick or it will be a long season for the Chargers offense.

Next Game: AT Tampa Bay Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Detroit Lions(1-2) AT Arizona Cardinals(2-1)

Lions are happy Golladay is back

Kyler's turnover issues aren't completely fixed

The Lions won their first game of the season with a shocking 26-23 result over the Cardinals.

Detroit's #1 playmaker made his season debut on Sunday. Golladay had 6 receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown. Kenny Golladay enjoyed a 1190 yard and 11 touchdown season in 2019. He is one of the most underrated deep threat in the league. Golladay will open the running game and other passing options for Matthew Stafford and their potentially explosive offense.

Next Game: VS Saints Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Kyler threw 3INTs during Sundays matchup. His turnovers were thought to be fixed during the weird offseason. He has 5INTs this year, at least one every game. He had a decent game throwing for 270 yards and 2TDs, but the interceptions lost them the game in the end. Arizona abandoned the run and the Lions defense saw that and jumped routes. Let's hope Murray can rebound.

Next Game: AT Carolina Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Tampa Bay Buccaneers(2-1) AT Denver Broncos(0-3)

Tom Brady is himself again

Broncos injuries holding them back

Tampa Bay topped an injured Broncos team 28-10.

Tom Brady threw for 297 yards and 3 touchdowns while going 25/38. After a harsh Week 1, Brady has bounced back and showed everyone he is still capable of winning at his age. He threw two 1-yard touchdowns to Mike Evans. This was his first game this season he didn't throw an interception. He seems to be adjusting to the Tampa playbook, watch out NFC South.

Next Game: VS Chargers Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

The Denver defense has suffered another injury. DT Jurrell Casey is out for the season along with other Broncos. The lack of experience and knowalge of the offense for QB Jeff Driskel played a key component in their lack of points scored. The #1 target is out for the season and the starting QB is out most likely until after their Week 8 bye. Denver won't have the best season this year and they might struggle to move the ball and get an offensive rhythm started.

Next Game: AT Jets Thu,10/1/20 4:20pm

Dallas Cowboys(1-2) AT Seattle Seahawks(3-0)

Dak finds new target

Seattle is letting Rus cook

In the most entertaining game of Week 3, the Seahawks edge the Cowboys 38-31 and remain undefeated.

The Cowboys offense was pretty shutdown. RB Zeke Elliot had only 34 yards on the ground and Amari Cooper had 86 receiving yards. Dan Prescott found a new target in Cedrick Wilson. Wilson caught 5 passes for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 42 yard reception. He averaged 21.4 yards per catch. Cedrick didn't have a catch until this game. Including him into the offense might just get other players separated.

Next Game: VS Cleveland Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Russell Wilson has never received an MVP vote, but that will change this year. Russell threw 4 touchdowns to Tyler Lockett and the go-ahead touchdown to DK Metcalf, for a total of 5. He also threw for 315 yards. He threw back-to-back 5TD games and in each game had a pass of 50+ yards. Seattle is letting him do more on his own, as in the past it has been very coach managed. Wilson remains extremely mobile in the pocket and his running ability has not gone away. He is a strong candidate for the 2020 NFL MVP.

Next Game: AT Miami Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Green Bay Packers(3-0) AT New Orleans Saints(1-2)

Allen Lazard is a deep ball monster

Drew Brees might be done after 2020

Green Bay takes the victory in the Dome by a score of 37-30 to remain perfect.

Allen Lazard has quickly became a favorite deep target for Aaron Rodgers. Towards the end of the regular season last year, he started going to him. Lazard had 6 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown, along with a 72 yard reception. The 2018 6'5" undrafted receiver has found his niche in Green Bay and seems to be settling in for a nice long stay.

Next Game: VS Falcons Mon,10/5/20 4:15pm

Drew Brees has looked terrible after Week 1. Some believe Micheal Thomas was the reason Brees was still slinging it, they might be right. Drew has just dumped off to Alvin Kamara for what seems more than 50% of the plays. Kamara had 139 of Drew's 288 passing yards and had 2 of his 3 passing touchdowns. Alvin caught 13 of Brees's 29 completions but was targeted 14 times. He has not taken a shot more than 20 yards down the field since Thomas got hurt, maybe he has taken a few. The 41-year old needs to get back on track soon or the Saints may force him into retirement.

Next Game: AT Lions Sun,10/4/20 9:00am

Kansas City Chiefs(3-0) AT Baltimore Ravens(2-1)

Mahomes>Jackson

Baltimore's ball movement woes

Mahomes breaks another record in their 34-20 win over Baltimore on Monday Night.

Patrick Mahomes is now the fastest quarterback to reach 10k passing yards, he achieved that in his 34th career game tonight. Mahomes is now 3-0 against the Baltimore Ravens in his short career so far. Tonight he threw 385 yards, 4TDs and completed 31/42 passes. In all three games this season, he has had 2+ touchdowns with 200+ yards. Jackson struggles when he plays the Chiefs defense, they seem to have him sniffed out. Lamar had 97 yards throwing, a fumble, 15 completions and a touchdown throwing. Every game Patrick proves he is wroth his $503 million dollar deal.

Next Game: VS Patriots Sun,10/4/20 12:25pm

Mark Andrews had 4 drops, including a touchdown. Hollywood Brown also had multiple drops tonight. The Ravens had 16 first downs and did not convert a 4th down. Costly penalties forced Baltimore to take a field goal instead of going for a 4th&1 deep in Kansas City territory. Lamar completed 15 passes and had only 97 yards through the air. His 83 rushing yards didn't help the team either. Baltimore was 3/9 on 3rd downs and only finished with 228 total yards. 53 offensive plays is the lowest in a long time. Lamar got sacked 4 times and fumbled once, there wasn't a lot of time in the pocket. Baltimore will be looking to bounce back against Washington next week.

Next Game: AT Washington Sun,10/4/20 9:00am
