Week 8 Game Takeaways from each NFL Game

Week 8 of the NFL season has concluded, many division games were played this week and ended in ways no one expected them to. Some rookies made their debut this week and a season-ending injury to a big player. Find out all of that below and more!

Week 8 Byes: Arizona Cardinals, Houston Texans, Washington Football Team, and Jacksonville Jaguars

Atlanta Falcons(2-6) AT Carolina Panthers(3-5)

Atlanta's defense performed well

Play-calling and penalties cause Carolina the win

Atlanta has a stunning victory over an NFC South foe, wins 25-17 on Thursday Night.

The Atlanta defense stunned viewers on Thursday Night as they held the Panthers offense to just 17 points on 52 plays for 304 yards. A game-sealing interception by CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson was a shocker to most and the pressure put on Carolina quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, the team had 3 sacks and multiple pressures. Atlanta wins a tough divisional game on the road and heads home for a 10 day rest period.

Next Game: VS Denver Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

The Carolina Panthers had many costly penalties and few questionable play choices. A 4th down run to the strong side just to end up with negative yards, holding calls on the defense and a late offensive holding by the right tackle that backed the team up to 3rd and long. Carolina's defense also left star wide receiver Julio Jones wide open on multiple occasions, Jones finished with 7 receptions for 137 yards. The coaches didn't let Bridgewater air it out on a weak secondary, it just didn't make any sense. It doesn't get any easier for the Panthers as they travel to Arrowhead to face the best team in football.

Next Game: AT Kansas City Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Pittsburgh Steelers(7-0) AT Baltimore Ravens(5-2)

Steelers' defense steps up once again

Lamar Jackson continues to struggle against Steelers and big situations

Pittsburgh comes from behind against Baltimore and remains 7-0 by a score 28-24.

On the opening drive, linebacker Robert Spillane intercepted Lamar Jackson and took it back for six, the Steelers' defense did not heat up till the second half. Pittsburgh's defense intercepted Lamar twice, made him fumble twice, and sacked him four times. The defense has been why Pittsburgh remains undefeated, but the team marches into AT&T Stadium next week to take on America's Team.

Next Game: AT Dallas Sun, 11/8/20 12:25 pm

Lamar Jackson is normally too much for opposing defenses to handle, but for some reason the Steelers always matchup well against him. Lamar has thrown five interceptions in two games against this defense, he has also thrown 369 yards and three touchdowns. Jackson had trouble throwing the ball, he did not read the defense and threw some inaccurate passes. Baltimore did lose a starting offensive lineman in Ronnie Stanley, a big part of Lamar Jackson's success. Although Jackson did have some good runs against that Pittsburgh defense. Lamar tends to struggle when forced throw, something that is not a good trait in quarterbacks.

Next Game: AT Colts Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

New England Patriots(2-5) AT Buffalo Bills(6-2)

Cam Newton has a better game but still is not performing

Zack Moss might start to be involved more

Buffalo beats New England 24-21 on a Cam Newton fumble late in the final quarter.

Cam Newton surely had a better game stat wise on Sunday, but did he have a better game up to Belichick's standard? His stats ended up being 15/25 for 174 yards, 9 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. Newton, once again has costed his team a possible win. His fumble inside 40 seconds was recovered by Buffalo and resulted in his team record go three games below .500. Cam has been fumbling opportunities away, if this continues he will not get resigned after this season is up.

Next Game: AT Jets Mon, 11/9/20 4:15 pm

We haven't heard much out Zack Moss, the third-round rookie RB from Utah. Moss notched 14 carries and 81 yards for two touchdowns and was second in rushing behind Devin Singletary who had 14 carries for 86 yards. Zack was a key part in the win over a division rival, he grinned out first downs and touchdowns. Zack Moss and Devin Singletary would make a good future combo at running back.

Next Game: VS Seattle Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Tennessee Titans(5-2) AT Cincinnati Bengals(2-5-1)

AJ Brown needs to be a factor for Tennessee to win

Tee Higgins is close to the new number one in Cincinnati

Cincinnati pulled off the upset of the week, defeating Tennessee 31-20.

AJ Brown has made his sophomore season leap and is now the top target of Ryan Tannehill. Against the Steelers, Brown was targeted eight times and put in space, he had 153 yards and a touchdown. Against the Bengals, AJ was targeted seven times and caught four passes for 24 yards and a touchdown, see the difference? AJ Brown has turned into the number one receiver that the Titans have lacked for years, they must include him in their gameplay more.

Next Game: VS Bears Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

The rookie wideout has outplayed AJ Green and competed with Tyler Boyd for the number one spot. Tee Higgins has almost taken over for AJ Green, as he stands with Green at 6' 4". Higgins caught 6 balls for 78 yards, although he is not a touchdown machine, Higgins gets them down the field and occasionally scores. With 33 catches for 488 yards and three touchdowns, Tee has quickly become Joe Burrow's top target.

Next Week: BYE

Las Vegas Raiders(4-3) AT Cleveland Browns(5-3)

Josh Jacobs grinds it out for Vegas

Baker woke up feeling dangerous

In a windy and wet Cleveland stadium, bizarre weather made this a low scoring game, 16-6 in favor of the Raiders is your final score.

In a windy game it's best to keep it on the ground, and that is just what the Raiders did. Josh Jacobs carried the ball 31 times for 128 yards, Las Vegas ran 71 total plays. Jacobs was not used in the receiving game and Las Vegas didn't throw the ball downfield as much, the longest competition for the Raiders was 17 yards. Jacobs was their ball security and he did his job. This proves once more Josh Jacobs can be a bell cow for that offense and Las Vegas can rely on the run more.

Next Game: AT Chargers Sun, 11/8/20 12:05 pm

Baker Mayfield and company only put up six points. To be fair, there was powerful wind so passing maybe wasn't an option. Baker completed 12 of 25 passes for 122 yards, the longest completion was 25 yards to Jarvis Landry. Cleveland got out scored in yards, they only gained 223 total yards while the Raiders gained 309, they got outplayed in pretty much every category. Baker hasn't looked good overall in 2020, but he has made some great recoveries. The question about him still remains unanswered.

Next Week: BYE

Indianapolis Colts(5-2) AT Detroit Lions(3-4)

Colts defense is good, but very inconsistent in getting pressure on QBs

TJ Hockenson is enjoying an increased role

The Colts enjoyed a 41-21 win over Detroit in the motor city.

Indianapolis Colts defense put on another show on Sunday and finally got some sacks. The defense totaled five sacks, a interception, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a touchdown. Indianapolis is good at forcing turnovers but not so much getting pressure on opposing quarterbacks, in their last four games they have faced the Jets, Bears, Browns, and Bengals and have totaled just six sacks, that's one more than they had against Detroit in total. Even with the sack total, Stafford enjoyed a 336 yard and three touchdown day.

Next Game: VS Ravens Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

One week after having the game winning score, TJ Hockenson had 7 receptions for 65 yards, a season-high for the second year tight end. Hockenson has not been injured and has been playing most of the offensive snaps. It was thought he would have found more involvement in the offense and it has happened. He has 29 catches for 321 yards and four touchdowns on the year, Detroit will need him down the stretch especially with Kenny Golladay now on IR.

Next Game: AT Vikings Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Minnesota Vikings(2-5) AT Green Bay Packers(5-2)

Dalvin Cook wastes no time coming back from injury, breaks record

Packers' defense lacks pressure and run stopping players

Dalvin Cook set a Lambeau record in Minnesota's 28-22 thrilling win over Green Bay.

On a windy day at Lambeau Field, Dalvin Cook ran for 163 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries, as well as two receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown. He is the first player to pass 200 yards from scrimmage and have four touchdowns, tying with Bill Brown for the fifth-highest season total. Dalvin might be the best running back in the league and he lived up to the potential ranking with that performance, he was also the leading receiver on Sunday.

Next Game: VS Detroit Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Green Bay's defense did not fare well against the running attack. The run game is what crippled them in the 2019 NFC Championship game against the San Fransisco 49ers. Their defense has given up the 15th most rushing yards with an average of 119 yards per game. The Packers rank in the bottom half of the NFL in allowing an average of 26.7 points per game, they are ranked 20th of 32. Lastly, Green Bay is ranked 16th of 32 in sacks per game with an average of 2.3 sacks. There is a rematch of the NFC Championship next week, Green Bay hopes to hold off the rushing attack as well as the passing game.

Next Game: AT 49ers Thu, 11/5/20 4:20pm

New York Jets(0-8) AT Kansas City Chiefs(7-1)

It's just the same ol' Jets

Travis Kelce gets involved in the offense

Chiefs obliterate the Jets 35-9 in Arrowhead.

Another week another New York loss, what did you expect. Once again, the Jets give up 30+ points and only score single digits. Sam Darnold threw for 133 yards and completed 18/30 passes. The total yardage gained by the Jets was only 221, Patrick Mahomes almost doubled that in passing yards. As they continue to hold onto Trevor Lawrence with the number one overall pick, the Jets have to scratch this season and look into the future.

Next Game: VS Patriots Mon, 11/9/20 4:15 pm

Travis Kelce had his best game of the season against the Jets, the tight end recorded 8 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, as well as a Tony Gonzalez celebration dunk. He's only had one other 100+ yard receiving game and that came during week 5 in their loss to division rival the Las Vegas Raiders. Kansas City has used a variety of weapons to win games this year, Kelce has been on the down low for most of the season, is it time he gets going?

Next Game: Vs Carolina Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Los Angeles Rams(5-3) AT Mimai Dolphins(4-3)

Rams lacked defensive pressure

Miami has playmakers in other areas

Miami's defense and special teams give their team a big boost and helped with the 28-17 final score.

On a sunny and windless day in Miami, Florida, the Dolphins shocked the Rams. Los Angeles only sacked rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa once and forced two fumbles. Although their defense wasn't necessarily the problem, if they got to Tua more he might have thrown a few interceptions, on their only sack Aaron Donald forced a fumble.

Next Week: BYE

With all the buzz surrounding Tua Tagovailoa and his first NFL start, it wasn't him who performed well. The Miami special teams had a punt return of 88 yards for a score and their kick return was a gain of 45 yards. The defense hung two sacks, two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and a touchdown on the stat line, as well as 45 tackles. The defense never let up until late in the game when they allowed a touchdown. Miami is starting to show their talent as they now have obtained a winning record.

Next Game: AT Cardinals Sun, 11/8/20 12:25 pm

Los Angeles Chargers(2-5) AT Denver Broncos(3-4)

Chargers play calling needs new life

Drew Lock settles back in

Drew Lock was back and it proved to be true in a wild 31-30 Denver victory.

The Chargers play calling has been the same week after week, and it has them only two wins. With another blown lead against division foe Denver, what does the Los Angeles playbook need to look like? The Chargers run the ball the most out of 31 other teams, they have the 8th most rushing yards per game with an average of 136.7. The Chargers also remain in the top 10 for most passing attempts, completions and yards. What kind of plays does the offensive coordinator need to draw up and go over with head coach Anthony Lynn and rookie quarterback Justin Herbert?

Next Game: VS Raiders Sun, 11/8/20 12:05 pm

Drew Lock is back, performance wise. During last weeks embarrassment, Drew Lock threw 24/40 for 254 yards and two interceptions, this week, he threw 26/41 for 248 yards, three touchdowns and only one interception. He capped of his day by throwing the game winning touchdown to rookie wide receiver KJ Hamler. If you follow Lock, you know he has the talent but doesn't have necessarily the right use of his talents. Maybe he is still settling back in after missing five and a half games due to injury.

Next Game: AT Atlanta Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

San Fransisco 49ers(4-4) AT Seattle Seahawks(6-1)

Nick Mullens is the longterm quarterback

DK Metcalf hawks down a career day

Garoppolo and Kittle likely done for season, Seahawks were hungry after last Sunday's loss, Seattle beats this division rival 37-27.

Nick Mullens has seen a lot of playing time this year, he will once again take over for at least six weeks and maybe longer due to another injury on Jimmy G's ankle. Mullens hasn't been an All-Star but has stayed healthy. Nick tallied 18 completions for 238 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He is familiar with the system and is set for a NFC Championship rematch with the Packers on a short week.

Next Game: VS Green Bay Thu, 11/5/20 4:20 pm

DK Metcalf had himself a career day on Sunday, he caught 12 passes for 161 yards and 2 scores. I had a feeling this would be a DK game since he had only 2 receptions for 23 yards on last Sunday Night's thriller. Seattle has two killer receivers and Wilson can't go wrong throwing to either of them.

Next Game: AT Bills Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

New Orleans Saints(5-2) AT Chicago Bears(5-3)

Will Lutz is a savior for the Saints

Chicago play calling is also in need of some work

The only week 8 overtime game ended in a 26-23 Saints win.

Will Lutz has been nothing short of clutch for New Orleans throughout his career, on Sunday he made 2/2 extra points and 4/5 field goals, including the game winner. New Orleans was comfortable calling on him to make this kick after he missed one in the first quarter. Lutz is 15/16 on field goals for the season and has hit a long of 53 yards, he is also 23/23 on extra points.

Next Game: AT Tampa Bay Sun, 11/8/20 4:20 pm

Chicago never seems to unleash the ball downfield, when they do it is pretty inaccurate for the most part. The Bears haven't had a 100-yard rusher all season, eight weeks into the season and there's no 100-yard rusher, seems like a red flag doesn't it? Allen Robinson, Cairo Santos, and the defense has been the only consistent source of points this Chicago team has had all year. Chicago ranks 31st in terms of rushing yards per game and ranks 29th in rushing attempts per game. Their O-line needs to start working a little more.

Next Game: AT Titans Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am

Dallas Cowboys(2-6) AT Philadelphia Eagles(3-4-1)

Trevon Diggs was the only bright spot for Cowboys

Carson Wentz has four turnovers against one of the leagues worst defenses

Sunday Night football was sloppy from both teams, Eagles roll over Cowboys 23-9.

Trevon Diggs recorded his first and second career interceptions against the Eagles on a primetime game. He had an amazing controversial interception and caught a over thrown interception, he also tacked on six solo tackles and an assist. Trevon Diggs was the one shinning spot for the Cowboys on a sloppy and depressing night.

Next Game: VS Steelers Sun, 11/8/20 12:25 pm

Carson Wentz is just expected to throw multiple interceptions at this point. He had four total turnovers, two interceptions and two fumbles. He made poor decisions with the ball and looked lost in the pocket. He finished the night with only 123 yards and two touchdowns with 15 completed passes, four of those completions were to running backs. Wentz was also once again inaccurate with his throws and ended up with dangerous situations. Philadelphia head into the bye week in first place in the NFC East but playing horribly.

Next Week: BYE

Tampa Bay Buccaneers(6-2) AT New York Giants(1-7)

Buccaneers bounce back

Daniel Jones is just straight up bad at football

Tampa Bay starts off slow but comes back from a 14-3 deficient to beat New York 25-23 on Monday Night.

Tampa Bay looked to be lost early on, but after halftime they came out to play. The Buccaneers outscored the Giants 19-9 in the second half and stopped out the fire that was going on. Brady calmed down and started throwing better passes, he got some passes off to Gronk. They can only improve more as they get to activate the ex-Steeler, Raider, and Patriot Antonio Brown against their divisional rival next week on Sunday Night, Antonio Browns best games and his best plays have came off that primetime spot.

Next Game: VS Saints Sun, 11/8/20 4:20 pm

Daniel Jones's pair of interceptions proved costly and were game changing for their collapse. Daniel threw a lot of passes inside to the receiver instead of out in front of them. Jones finished 25/41 for 256 yards and two touchdowns and interceptions. He looked uncomfortable in the pocket and moved into sacks on multiple occasions, he was sacked for a total of three times. The Giants should strongly consider taking a quarterback or signing someone in free agency to replace Jones. Look at his tape in the NFL if you want to watch him.

Next Game: AT Washington Sun, 11/8/20 9:00 am
