Zion Williamson was the undisputed first overall pick by the New Orleans Pelicans. His HS mixtapes have millions of view on YouTube. He went to one of the best college basketball schools (Duke) and played under arguably the best college basketball coach of all time, Coach K.
Ja Morant was the complete opposite. He received almost no college offers and went to Murray St. which many have never heard of until Ja (at least me). Ja showed that he is NBA material when he averaged 24.5 points and 10 assists. Not to mention, 6 rebounds (as a 6'1'' guard). Very impressive. This got Ja selected #2 overall in the draft by the Memphis Grizzlies
Ja and Zion are good friends and even played together on an AAU team.
Both players are fan favorites. Ja will most likely win Rookie of the Year due to his outstanding play and Zion being injured most of the year. Both players are fighting for the #8 seed in the Western Conference.
When it comes down to it Ja is a point guard. He leads the floor. In today's NBA everyone wants to be able to shoot, dribble, and dunk. Ja can do all three. Ja shot 37% from three. Although Zion shot 46%, he only made 6 threes throughout the season, while Ja made 51. A better estimate at Zion's shooting ability is in college where he shot 33%.
Zion is a beast. He is just a monster rebounder, finisher, and dunker.
The difference that I see is that the Grizzlies will build around Ja. He is their centerpiece for the next 10 years. The Pelicans already have some decent talent (Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, and Jaxson Hayes). Since Zion is a PF they might not build around him.
Also, it is likely that Ja will earn his first all-star appearance within the next 2 years and sooner than Zion. This is because he is already the best player on his team and could average 20 points and 10 assists very soon. This year Ja averaged 18 points (second among rookies) and 7 assists (first among rookies). Zion is not the best on his team. Brandon Ingram earned his first all-star appearance this year and is better than Zion.
I personally like both players and believe that they both have very bright futures. It seems like with Zion's expectations and his talented team that he might not stand out for a while. Zion could re-injure himself very easily and end up like D-rose. He could never play the same again.
Ja already showed that he can lead his team to the playoffs and make his teammates better. That is why I think that Ja will have a better career than Zion.
