Every year it seems like the Cowboys may make a run for the Super Bowl, their fans go crazy saying “this is our year”, but by the time the season starts, something is always wrong, but what is it?
For example, this year, the Cowboys were a projected Top 5 team, but at the moment they are 2-7, which is no help to the broken ankle of Dak Prescott, but what went wrong? First off, for this year in particular, their defense has been atrocious, with a -86 point differential, the 31st worst in the NFL other than, of course, the Jets, and they also give up 32 points, which is also one of the worst stats in the NFL. But other than that, the Cowboys have had a bit of trouble finding a good team leader. They have their star of a running back Ezekiel Elliot, but so far the Cowboys have found that they can not really trust him either on or off the field, and with Dak Prescott coming down with a horrific injury, their quarterback situation is tough, as they recently had to start a 7th round rookie, their 3rd string quarterback, and, as I just stated, their defense is one of if not the worst defense in the league.
A former Cowboys player Uche Nwaneri recently came out to talk about the dysfunctional organization. He talks about how Jerry Jones is also a major reason that the Cowboys might be struggling, mainly because he has become a total control freak, and he says that Jones seems to try to live off the nostalgia of the glorious cowboys with Jimmie Johnson and Troy Aikman. Well, at least he seems like a good businessman, as the Cowboys are now worth around 5.5 billion, which is for sure more than the 140 million he used to buy the team years ago. But, that’s not the point, the point is to win, and the Cowboys have not been able to win for quite a while now.
And not only this, but It seems like even when they make the playoffs, it seems like they are highly inconsistent and they just can not get their team together. And we see this with the miserable stat which shows us that they have not made it past the Division Round for 25 years, and that they also have only won 3 playoff games in total since 2000, even with the talent that they have had over the years, from Dez Bryant, Demarco Murray, and Tony Romo, to the current team of Dak Prescott, Amari Cooper, and Ezekiel Elliot.
So, well, for now, I guess we will just have to wait for a successful Cowboys team, whether it be within the next 2 or 20 years.
