Karl-Anthony Towns (KAT) put up very good numbers this year. Although, he was robbed of an All-star appearance he put up the best numbers for a center this year. KAT averaged 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 4.5 assists on 51 percent shooting and 41 percent three-point shooting.
Yes, 41 percent three-point shooting. That ranks second among centers. Not to mention, that KAT ranks second in three-pointers made among centers.
Let's look at other centers that NBA fans consider the best: Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid. Both centers have decent three-point jump shots.
This year Jokic averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists on 53 percent shooting and 31 percent three-point shooting.
Joel Embiid averaged 24 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists on 47 percent shooting and 35 percent three-point shooting.
Based off these stats alone KAT averaged more points and better shooting percentages than Embiid and Jokic. Additionally, KAT's assist number have been going up every year as well as his scoring numbers. On KAT's current pace, in the 2020-21 NBA season he will average 28 points and 5.5 assists.
The only argument to make that Jokic and Embiid are better than KAT is because of the Timberwolves (T-Wolves) poor record. However, this is only because the T-Wolves don't have a lot of depth. The only players on the T-Wolves that could turn into a solid starters are Malik Beasley and D'Angelo Russell. While, the 76ers have Ben Simmons, Al Horford, Alec Burks, Glen Robinson lll, Josh Richardson, and Shake Milton. And the Nuggets have Jamaal Murray, Paul Millsap, Michael Porter Jr., Gary Harris, and Will Barton.
Once the T-Wolves develop a better team, they will succeed. The T-Wolves are the 3rd worst shooting team in the NBA. The Nuggets and the 76ers are both in the top 10. Once the T-Wolves have better shooters it will be easier for KAT to rack up assists.
Also, the 76ers and Nuggets are both in the top 5 in opponents points per game allowed. While, once again the T-Wolves are in 3rd to last.
Fans might say Jokic and Embiid are better because of their record. But, it's not a fair assumption since the T-Wolves are much worse. Soon, the T-Wolves will get better and people will see that KAT is the best center in the NBA.
