Lately there have been rumours about how the habs might move their 16th overall pick. Personally I think these rumours are stupid and the habs shouldn't move the 16th overall pick unless we trade it in a 3 way trade for per say the 22nd and 27th overall picks. If that was to happen I would be happy to do that.
I think this is a stupid move to trade #16 unless we get 2 later 1st round picks in return. I would be happy if we did that because in this draft the quality is quantity of picks. However I still am unsure about the premise of giving up #16.
My 1st reason on why the habs should hold on to the 16th overall pick is that picks 14, 15, 16, and 17 tend to be steals and good picks. Example Caufield, Newhook, Krebs, Farabee, Denisenko, Smith, Barzal, etc. I can go on and on with how many steals were taken at those picks.
My 2nd reason on why the habs should hold on to the 16th overall pick is that there will be a good prospect left that could have fallen for no good reason, or just someone that everyone is sleeping on. I am willing to bet that one of JJ peterka, Noel Gunler, Lukas Reichel, Jacob Perreault, Rodion Amirov, Seth Jarvis, Or Dawson Mercer will still be on the board and some of those guys can turn into major steals for whoever takes them.
My 3rd reason on why the habs should hold onto the 16th overall pick is that the draft is deep and it wouldn't make sense to trade away a pick that can get you an elite/solid player for maybe an ageing player that is at pinnacle value ex. David Perron. It would only make sense if you get 2 later 1st round picks out of it. I would rather get JJ Peterka and Mavrik Bourque at per say 22 and 27 then get Noel Gunler at 16. However I don't think that that could happen
My last reason on why the habs should hold on to the 16th overall pick is that they have a lot of young guns and prospects who have a bright future. I think it would be illogical to give up the 16th pick for an ageing guy when you could draft a good player and continue to stack your future team and focus on developing your young guns. I think the habs need to realise that they need to wait a bit and develop their young guys then pick up ageing guys and be a middle of the pack team.
I think it would be 100% stupid and illogical for MB to move the 16th overall pick with some exceptions of coarse.
