The Padres and Marlins have just concluded a three-game set, in which the Padres came out victorious in two out of three games. Let’s take a look at how each game went:
GAME 1
Padres 6, Marlins 2
1st Inning: Ha Seong-Kim leads off the night with a double, he is then brought in by a Manny Machado sac fly. 1-0 Padres end of 1.
2nd Inning: Ha Seong-Kim strikes again this time in a giant way. He hits a grand slam in the into the right field seats to give the Padres a 5-0 lead.
5th Inning: Manny Machado is the next one to put a ball into the stands as he hits a rocket out of the park to left-center. 6-0 Padres.
6th Inning: The Marlins finally get on the board with a Josh Bell HR, and a double by Jesus Sanchez to make it 6-2 Padres.
Pitching: Wacha pitches great going 5.1 allowing 1 run with a staggering 7 K’s. The bullpen then hold the Marlins to one run over 3.2 innings. Great overall pitching from the staff.
Thoughts: Very solid game overall for the Padres. This game shows how important Ha Seong-Kim is for the Padres and how he has been their best player this season.
GAME 2
Padres 0, Marlins 3
3rd Inning: Jorge Soler gets the scoring started as he hits his 33rd HR. 1-0 Miami. In the same Inning Jake Burger drives in Luis Arraez on a throwing error by Xander Bogaerts as the Marlins take a 2-0 lead. Josh Bell would score later in the Inning to extend the lead to 3-0 Marlins.
Pitching: Blake Snell goes 6 allowing three runs and unfortunately picks up the loss. No run support in this one for Blake Snell, and errors had consequences in this one.
Thoughts: The Padres couldn’t get anything going in this game. Plenty of chances and runners on base just couldn’t get that one base knock to get on the board. Series is now split 1-1.
GAME 3
Padres 4, Marlins 0
1st Inning: Juan Soto gets the Padres on the board with a RBI single through the right of the infield. The Padres take a 1-0 lead early.
6th Inning: X-Man Xander Bogaerts hits a deep fly ball that goes over the wall in center, which gives the Padres a 3-0 lead.
7th Inning: It’s time for insurance as Fernando Tatis Jr. singles on a line drive to left field. Trent Grisham scores. The Padres now have a 4-0 lead.
Pitching: Lugo was on his game today from his first pitch to his last, he was spinning the ball very good today and eliminated bat to ball contact. The bullpen was very solid, except for Robert Suarez who has sticky stuff on his hand. Hader gets the save.
Thoughts: Seth Lugo was very solid, pitching 6 scoreless innings of very solid baseball. My hope is that we build of this win and hopefully get hot down the final stretch.
In all this proved to be a pretty good series for the men in brown and gold as they take 2 out of 3 from Miami a team ahead of them in the wild card race. The Padres currently sit 5.5 GB of the final wild card so they have some work to do. They now head to Milwaukee for a series with the Brewers.
