The 2021 Dallas Cowboys were a real treat to watch (not being sarcastic) except for of course 2 or 3 games (I’d say the Patriots game, the Chiefs, Raiders, Cardinals, and 49ers game were all hard to watch). But overall last year was a GOOD year. Some might say the best by the Cowboys in about 5 years.
Anyway, yeah last year was great, but then free agency hit. We all knew it would be difficult to bring EVERYBODY back, but didn’t expect to lose; DE Randy Gregory, RT La’el Collins, WR Amari Cooper, WR Cedrick Wilson, WR Malik Turner, TE Blake Jarwin, DT Brent Urban, LB Keanu Neal, S Damontae Kazee. I mean, I just listed pretty much ALL of our free agents from last year. On the other hand, some key Cowboys that we DID bring back are: DE DeMarcus Lawrence, WR Noah Brown, TE Dalton Schultz (Franchise Tag), DE Dorance Armstrong, LB Leighton Vander Esch, S Malik Hooker, S Jayron Kearse, and P Bryan Anger. These are key players, but it doesn’t make up for all the guys we let go of “for money”, but yet we currently still have $12,837,816 in cap space. I mean we traded Amari Cooper and just got a 5th and 6th round pick for him! And look what happened, now we have a WEAK WR core.
Some POSITIVES from this offseason aside from the losses and re-signings are in Free Agency we (eventually, but DID) pick up former Steelers WR James Washington, former Falcons DE Dante Fowler, former Bears OT Jason Peters, and former Vikings LB Anthony Barr. That was from free agency. From the DRAFT, here are some key players: 1st round- OL Tyler Smith 2nd round- DE Sam Williams 3rd round- WR Jalen Tolbert. What questions me is Tolbert, our 3rd round pick rookie WR. Before the preseason, we all had such high hopes for the rookie, especially considering how thin our position group is at that spot. But throughout the 3 preseason games, Jalen had 16 targets (5.3 avg per game) with just 6 catches (2 avg per game) and 44 yards (14.6 avg per game) and no touchdowns. So although it’s JUST preseason, there has to be a little concern there by us the fans, and it was a concern from the coaches and front office. Dallas has played 2 games so far this year (regular season). Tolbert: none. Zip. Zero. 0. I love Tolbert, I’m excited for him, but he’s gotta come up big for us and at least be ACTIVE in the games. This is not because of an injury (although they say there’s a “hamstring injury”, but) this is really just because the front office is simply unbelieving of Tolbert.
To wrap it up, now with Dak Prescott out, with 2 of our starting WR’s gone, a 3rd string LG, and missing our standout starting safety, I feel proud and satisfied with how this team has rolled (since the Dak injury). I know it’s been one game but that one game vs CIN showed a lot about our mentality with our team leader on the sidelines. Dak should be back around week 5-8ish, obviously we don’t wanna RUSH him back (Rush, haha, get it…) but it would be nice to get him back ASAP *WHEN HE IS READY*. Thank you all so much for reading and go Cowboys!!! Make sure to follow me on Instagram: @TheStarAccess and @HeatFormats
