White Sox lost 2 of 3 vs the Dodgers this week. Most fans had low expectations for this series because the Dodgers are considered by most the best team in baseball and the White Sox are an underachieving ballclub who are treading water on the season. Even with the low expectations the White Sox found a way to embarrass themselves. How did they do it?
The White Sox won the first game of this series 4-0 because of an amazing game thrown by Michael Kopech. Kopech went 6 IP giving up 1 hit and striking out 8. Michael Kopech has been arguably our best starting pitcher this year. The offense got some timely hits and the White Sox big 3 in Bummer, Graveman, and Hendriks slammed the door shut. Game 2 was a much different story; It all started with what the Game two lineup looked like:
- Leury Garcia (S) 2B
- Luis Robert (R) CF
- Yoan Moncada (S) 3B
- Jose Abreu (R) 1B
- Yasmani Grandal (S) C
- Jake Burger (R) DH
- Gavin Sheets (L) RF
- AJ Pollock (R) LF
- Danny Mendick (R) SS
That is a joke of a lineup. One you sit Andrew Vaughn after a day off on Monday and two you lead off your worst hitter. Leury Garcia may be the worst hitter in baseball that has played all year. He is slashing: .184/.193/.257 and that is your lead off hitter? He ended up going 0-4 with 3 strikeouts and the Dodgers broadcast basically making fun of the White Sox for that and the crowd booing after the 3rd strikeout. The White Sox was also because of the lineup being terrible resulting in a 4-1 Dodger win. Now on to game 3.
I’m sure all of you who know me are waiting for you for me to react to this game and I won’t hold back. This was a game I saw live. I was at this game. It started off well actually for the White Sox as Dylan Cease was cruising and the White Sox jumped out to a 4-0 lead early, looked like the White Sox were going to cruise to a win in this game, well the White Sox aren’t a normal team. The Dodgers threatened in the 5th inning as Cease began to struggle but there was a ground ball to third and it was going to be an inning ending double play by Dodgers catcher Austin Barnes but Jake Burger bobbled the ball and got 0 outs on the play. Dylan Cease then struck out Betts for out number 2 but then the flood gates opened. The Dodgers put up 6 unearned runs in the process and Tony La Russa didn’t know when to pull his pitcher again. He gets Cease out finally and the Sox get out of it. After a Jake Burger Home Run to make it 6-5 came the inning that embarrassed the White Sox on the national scene. The White Sox chose to pitch Bennet Sousa in the 6th inning because Tony is very bad at managing a bullpen but that’s not even the worst part. The Dodgers add another run after a Lux infield hit to lead off the inning and then a two out hit by Freddie Freeman 7-5 LA. Then here comes the part where all hell broke loose. Bennett Sousa had an 0-2 count on Trea Turner then throws a wild pitch to make it a 1-2 count. Tony La Russa goes on to intentionally walk Trea Turner. You did not misread that. Then Max Muncy hits a Home run the next at bat to make it 10-5 LA basically putting the dagger in the game. And left White Sox fans including myself saying ARE YOU ******* KIDDING ME? You don’t walk someone on a 1-2 count. Bennet Sousa is known to pitch better vs righties but Tony being so obsessed with “matchups” gets burnt and the rare time you root for something to fail to expose how stupid the decision is. The White Sox go on to lose 11-9 and got laughed at by everyone in baseball.
Starts of this series for the White Sox
Michael Kopech
Jake Burger
AJ Pollock
Max Muncy (for exposing how unfit Tony La Russa is).
The White Sox now move on to face the Rangers to close this homestand. Which will be a must sweep for the White Sox.
